One of my cats is named Meatball. We just call him Meat. Another is named Butterscotch. We call her Missy. Another is named Summer cuz we got him on June 21 and my favorite kitty is named Krusty,just like the clown. My old buddy who passed last year was named Simba, but we called him Danish. How the hell it morphed into that, I cannot even remember.

I think you have to be more diligent in reinforcing their names, but both my cats know theirs. The elder (we got her young) will come, speak, or wag her tail when we say her name. The younger (we got her old) will look at us or turn her ears towards us when we say hers.
