He could also just buy one of the pioneer 2 piece surround thigns on clearance somewhere. t's just a 2 speaker one piece unit for on top of the tv and a subwoofer. They sell it at sam's club. To be honest, he wouldn't even need the RF modulator box for any reason. Just use the RCA outputs from tv or vcr and get a couple buck headphonejack to RCA converter cable ... then just hook in some computer speakers to that cable. But I digress........

From what I gathered regarding his setup, his TV has a coax input jack and that's it. The 3-way A/V swith would allow him to hook up his VCR, Video game System, and another device to his TV, although another option is to plug a straight A/V swith w/out RF modulator into the VCR and then plug coax cable from VCR into back of the TV, and use rca to headphone adapter from VCR audio output to hook up computer speakers. That's assuming his VCR is a hi-fi stereo model.

Heres my review of these things as im probably the first one to get them cuz i got next day shipping on a 30lb package for free

First impression, these things are HUGE. I could probably post a picture later, but i have a 27" tv that they are hooked up to (no amp). They sound good the mid/high's are pretty good. The bass is another story. It plain sucks at true bass. But dont judge them because of that, i do not have the proper power going to them, they hook directly to my tv.

To get an idea of the size of these thigns, they are only about 6" shorter than my tv, so they are like 18" tall each. They are about 8-9 inches wide.

Im sure these things will sound much better hooked through a receiver but i dont have one and am not going to spend the $$ on one at this point. Great deal for 20 bucks +tax free shipping. LOTR sounds very good, as with the matrix, but at the times of true deep bass, they just distort cuz they dont have proper power to them.

Maybe a pic within a couple days, if anyones interested of course, no one seems to reply.

thanks for the deal

I bought these also, 2 sets, back when the thread first started. Picked both up at the Best Buy in Brandon, FL. I have one set as my back surround speakers on my home theater setup. They sound fine for that use. The other set I have as my speakers for my receiver in my bedroom. Actually, I found I had to back off on the bass a little on the receiver as it sounded too "heavy". These were an absolute bargain imo.

so the bass is good on them with an amp?

i just wanted to give an "objective" review for the others who were looking at them. i know they would sound better with more power, they work with 5 up to 125watts each speaker.

BB has a 5 1/4" 2way bookshelves by KLH starting tomorrow. They will be $19.98 plus tax out the door if I am looking at the ad correctly. I bought 2 sets of the 8inche bookshelves, beat the heck out of the old realistic ones I had, still not much base. Think I will probably pick up a set of the 5 1/4" bookshelves to see what they are like.

definatly not as good of a deal and i doubt they will be better unless they are an upgraded model.

ours our 3 way speakers, and 8" , the 5 1/4 in my experience havnt been as good.

Sound pretty decent hooked up to a 325w Aiwa amp (I'm poor, what can I say) BUT the cone starting buzzing on one of them a few months ago, and haven't used them since. I seem to run into that alot, might just be my reciever since I can't see any physical damage and they were only six months old. Also, I don't listen to stuff that loud.

Anywho, 20 bucks, they are definetly worth it (think I payed 20 bucks each maybe?). Just don't blast your Black Hawk Down through it and they should be fine.

Ironically, they raised the klh to 35 each this week and call it clearance. Also, I saw the Kenwood vr605 for 150 last week on clearance in bestbuy .. this week it is apparently 180 'after $20 savings'. They actually raised the price and are saying its on sale. Amazing.

Do it if you don't have TV extension speakers and it supports it. That's the first thing I did when I got my TV. Cheapo speakers from Radio Shack, although not small and with real wood veneer (woopie!), but it made a world of difference. Got em spaced wide for real stereo effect. Yeah, I noticed this deal today in my BB Sunday newspaper insert.

any more talk of these as a center channel speaker? is it really necessary to run two of them, or would one do the trick?

one would do the trick i'd think, these are way too huge to even consider running two of them as the center channel. one by itself is huge enough, they weigh 15lb each, sit about 18" tall and like 10" wide, these are big for a center channel, but have 3 way setup on them.. so they do sound good..

ALIVE AGAIN. I missed out last time, but bought some today. $20+tax. I have compared them to my Yamaha NS-6390s. The Yamaha's definitely have a crisper more dynamic sound, but these KLH speakers are better than the Front R and L speakers that came bundled with my Kenwood HT. Definitely worth $10 each.

Check this site i upped my 3 pics of the speakers there.. if you would like any other pics ,let me know and i'll take a pic with my camera.

they do sound realyl good, but lack in bass. but i do not have any power/amp going to them, they go directly to my tv. so that could count for the lack of bass.

i do want to point out the fact of how big these things are. That is my 27" tv, and these things are barly 5 inces shorter than the tv.. so these are like 20" tall!!

i really like them and sound great with dvds, let me know if you guys want more pics

I ordered another pair - now 5-6 days on BB.com - but I think these are the same pair of speakers I've been using in my bonus room for years. It gets pretty loud in there on occassion - only complaint is what others have added - bass is kinda iffy real low or real loud. Other than that, I've paired these with two smaller KLH and a Sony center for all my Dolby Pro-Logic needs for years.

Yes, it's time to upgrade to DTS, but for now, these have served me well. Second pair going into the living room, I guess. But for $20, you can't beat these.
