my tv has connections for the speakers with just the normal speaker wire. it also has two av inputs, (rca plugs) one in the front and back, has hookups for two vcrs.

To be honest its a old tv from the 80s, but its awesome as it has all these connections except for the SVIDEO input. Normally you'd have to have a receiver, bestbuy has a klh 500watt receiver for 79.99 AR. (129.99 before), but i beleive there is a kenwood 500watt amp for around the same price on their site.

These should be fine as your rear speakers for your home theater setup. That's what I'm using them for in my bedroom. Now I'm in search of a hot deal on a sub and a center channel.

Good deal for only $20. I got the smaller ones, and I'd get these too but I don't have the room.

You have an RCA by any chance ? As for the Kenwood ... the 605 was 150 on supposed 'clearance' a few weeks ago, now best buy has raised it back up to 199.

BTW,

My Best Buy had NONE of these on display, and only about 5-6 pairs in the store in boxes. They were NOT marked with any prices. Clearly, the only people that would buy these are the people who read the flyer and came in looking for them. It was like they had them on sale but really didnt want to sell them.

Jesus, this would be an excellent way to go from 5.1 to 7.1. Wiring would be hassle though. Hmmmm.

Three sets were grabbed as I was thinking about mine so if you want em move yo butts !

EDIT:

Forgot to mention that they have gold plated banana capable binding posts.

These are back this week (same price) and they are the 3-ways again instead of the 2-ways they had on sale last....

sweet, would it be worth buying 4 of these for a 5.1 setup? and then finding a nice center speaker? right now i just purchased a pair for instore pickup for my front channels.

i have the KLH SS02-HTIB right now. would these bigger speakers be a good upgrade?

You probably wouldn't see much of a difference unless those speakers are complete crap at higher volumes when watching a DVD.

Just got 3 pairs for my home entertainment system.

Used Cool Edit and generated some tones to test the bass on these. They start responding at around 40 Hz, but really don't start picking up until 60-70 Hz.

Since I have an extra speaker left over (only need 5 for my home theater setup), I'm thinking about just drilling a hole in one of them to see if it improves the bass (it might, but it might also ruin the performance in the upper frequencies). I'll let you guys know what happens.

Nice deal. KLH isn't exactly the most respected name in home audio but these should be perfect for my bedroom - I already have a cheap center & satellites and I'm getting a new receiver and moving the old one in there too.
At $20 for the pair, you can't really go wrong, plus I don't need a lot of bass in my bedroom for watching TV and the occasional DVD late at night.

BTW, the Beaverton, OR BB still had at least 12-15 of these in stock. They're quite large for "bookshelf" speakers.

I just picked up a pair of these and I'm trying to decide which should go in surround system #1 and which should go into the worse set surround speakers between these KLH's and the Polk R10's I got from Circuit City a while back for $40.

The Polk's are only two ways but the tweeter goes a good chuck higher and their db sensitivity is alos better but those three ways with their 8" woofer are tempting - not that the woofer is going to kick in much on the surrounds anyway

What do you guys think I should use for my main surrounds - Polk or KLH?

Also, assuming I get a 7.1 receiver in the future, which should be the primary surround and which the rear surround channel?

Thx in advance for the input
specs:
p - 60 Hz to 24 kHz
k- 50 Hz to 20 kHz
p - 20 - 100 watts
k - 5 - 125 watts
p - 89 dB
k - 87 dB
p - msrp $160
k - msrp $120
Receiver 1 - Kenwood Dolby Digital and DTS Receiver
Receiver 2 - Kennwood Dolby ProLogic Surround (I)

VERY easy. Put the Polks in the better system. I wouldn't be surprised if the bass isn't THAT much better (if any) in the KLHs, and the overall sound quality will easily be better in the Polks. On top of that, assuming your "better" system is Dolby Digital, and possibly DPLII, it is going to make full use of high frequencies, while the bass management will redirect bass to your sub or mains above 80hz or higher. Assuming your lesser system isn't DPLII, it is going to cut off high end in the surrournds above 7khz anyway, except during Dolby Digital (if it does DD).

The KLH is definitely the lesser speaker. Put them in the lesser system.
