OK I have the client set up and running, but it cruching rc5 randoms. Do I need to set the klinux box as it's own ip and use my nat32 box as the gateway?

Also I set the client to ogr=4 rc5=1 the other 2 =0 That's the right way correct?

<edit> BTW this is one of the servers that I got for free, plus my first shot at klinux

Thx

danzigrules, did Klinux find your nic OK?

You will need to give each Klinux node it's own IP.
This can be done by running "netconfig" in a different tty term.

Hit the "Ctrl Alt F2" keys at the same time, and it'll take you to a different tty.
Login as root again, and then type: netconfig (enter)

You'll then be asked for the machines IP you want to assign.
Any IP that is in the same sequence as what your using will be fine, it just need to be different than any others.

Then you'll be asked for your subnet mask, make sure it's the same as what your running on the rest of your network.

You'll then enter your Nat32 box as the Gateway, and DNS server IPs.

That should work.
Now you can quit the second tty term, by hitting the "Ctrl D" keys.
That will close down the tty, and bring you back to it's login.
Than you'll "Ctrl Alt F1" back to your original tty that should have the dnet client running still.

Watch it as it finishes a block, and make sure it connects to dnet for more.
I don't recommend buffering large amounts of blocks, as you might get a "segmentation fault" if you over fill the ramdisks.

Are you running a dnet pproxy on any of your internet machines?
You should, but it isn't necessary.
Just point the client to it, if you are.

Edit - I just noticed your doing OGR, the client embeded in Klinux is version 463, I've heard it's not the best for OGR under Linux, but it's great for RC5. <hint hint>

Just another thing,

I'm not sure if I would be using those priority settings (OGR=4). I have heard that sometimes those higher figures can upset your computer.

If you want to do OGR as a priority, you can leave the default: OGR,DES,CSC,RC5 This will allow them to default to RC5 if OGR work suddenly dries up.

You only need to add the "=0" to projects that you do not want to do "by accident".
A lot of our machines set OGR=0 to stop them defaulting to OGR which normally runs at the higher priority.

Can you ping your Nat box?

Just type ping (IP adress) at the command line.

After, if it works or not, type Ctrl C to stop it.

Is your network setup for TCP/IP?

ping just sits there does nothing, from the klinux box but i can ping from the nat box.

The klinux box is the only one that is hooked up right now too

So, is it working now?

Don't sweat the small stuff danzigrules, I've answered dumber questions about Klinux.
At least you were trying to get it figured out.
I don't mind walking people thru it if it helps TeAm out.

People had me wondering if it was too hard to understand at first, but then I realized most people don't follow directions very well.

That is half the reason I'm trying to make Klinux-v.3 as easy as possible, with on screen help.

lol Kilowatt, I was just to dumb to remember that I had to turn the Nat32 proggie on.

I do have a ? though The one that is running klinux has been like this" ... " for over an hour?!?! Is that normal with ogr?

Thx

OGR stubs can have a differing number of nodes in them each, and therefore, some take longer than others. Just be patient

I don't know about OGR, I do RC5 only, since thats what I started with.
RC5 is basicly what I built Klinux for, but seeing how the same client does OGR also, it's a plus.

I did read your thread about getting those servers, and even though they're not that powerful, the price is right.
Every little bit helps.

I'm sure they would make a great little box to learn Linux on.

Now Dantoo, I wasn't even talking about you.

I was talking about the guy that unziped the download to a floppy, and told me it didn't all fit.

Or the guy that made the floppy, and then tried to look at it in windows, and told me there was nothing but "goobleygoop" on the floppy.

Ok now I have a little ole problem. I was running ogr last nite then when I got up I couldn't get the screen to come up. Just black screen. Does that mean that I ran out ram?

The pc was still running, and I had the link to the pc on my network.

Any ideas?

Thx

It could, I noticed in another thread that you had gotten 23 -24 OGR stubs from Dnet.
I believe once it saved them, you had filled your memory up, so there was no place to even store the finished WUs.

I don't do OGR, so I don't know how big the stubs can be.
I know if you had 5 -6 32*^28 RC5 packets, it would take somewhere around 2K of the 4K ramdisk, just to hold them.
That's not counting the rest of the filesystem that needs some space also.

This is why I say to keep your in/out buffers low.
You might try again, just buffing one WU per CPU, at a time.

It could also be the power saving setup in your motherboard bios, you might want to double check your settings.

kilowatt,

Since we're asking stupid Klinux questions, can I ask one?

I configured one machine to use Klinux, but for some reason it can't see my pproxy. (I read the instructions, twice in fact) I'm using a DEC Ethernet card connecting all my pcs with a 4 port hub. In fact, it can't see IP on my small network. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Any suggestions for me?

Thanks (and sorry)

danzigrules,
Buffering one WU per CPU, should keep your box busy for a while.
It will take a fast CPU at least an hour (? Like I said, I don't do OGR, so I'm guessing) to do one WU, so it's not like you'll be flooding your network moving packets, or stubs.

fdiskboy,
Did Klinux find your nic?
Is your Klinux IP set to the same range of IPs as the rest of your network? IE: 192.168.0.xxx
Did you set the same Subnet Mask as the rest of your network? IE: 255.255.255.0
Can you ping any other box on your network? see above how to do it
When you do an "ifconfig" in Klinux (do it the same as "ping", only use "ipconfig") what does it say?

So I went to rc5, but one more ? can I change the w/u from 1 to maybe 5 by the method the Kilowatt posted at the top?

Thx

An OGR stub can easily take 24h (for ~300 Gnodes) to finish on a P3 500.

If you want to do RC5, Yes you can change tty terms and reconfigure your client.
While your at it, also change the "restart on config change" to yes.
That way, when ever you change your dnet client this way, it'll go ahead and restart.I'd still only buffer 32WUs at a time.
If you happen to get a 32 block packet, it'll grab one, and then reconnect and grab another one for the other CPU.

Just config your client (screen 2, item 9) to RC5,DES:0,CSC:0,OGR:0
That'll just let the client do RC5.
Don't put in RC5=5,xxxxxxxx That won't be recognized by the client.
All your dong in that config, is letting the client know what project you want to do, not the amount of WUs you want.

Dnet setup screen 2, item 12 is where you set the size of the WUs, set it at 33.
If you want smaller WUs, so they'll go quicker, set item 12 to 28.
That'll give you smaller WUs, so you can watch them move across the screen faster.
I think it's screen 2, item 13 where you set the amount of WUs you want, set it to 32.

Let us know how it goes.

Well I think I have it up and running. It received 32 work units, now lets see if it will crunch them.

Now this should take a while on this p90 right? I know its slow, but how long should it take to crunch?

Poor little ole me just has 1 patch cable and can't get another right now due to lay-off, and the 3 rug rats.

<edit> Well she is off and running <edit>

Thx again Kilowatt, what a wonderfull little program U have there

<edit> now if I just knew how to put my heatware link as a link <edit>
