Klipsch 5.1 Ultras... $297.46 before taxes

I was looking for new speakers today, and I saw that Dell has a pretty good deal on the Klipsch 5.1 Ultras. They're 15% off and there's free shipping. This makes the price $297.46 before taxes.

The next cheapest I saw was Newegg at $355 so I thought this was worth posting.

The Ultras are the newer version...
The original 5.1's had a different sub and had quite a few problems.

By the old promedia 5.1, do you mean the GMX Promedia 5.1 cause I was planning on getting a pair of those. Are these a lot better than those and worth the price difference?

The Ultras have a redesigned look and fixed a lot of problems the original ProMedia 5.1's had with amplifier failure. FWIW I've owned both, the sound quality is about the same, the Ultra's might be a tad better, but I did go through 3 sets of the original ProMedia's before having the Ultra's. All of my ProMedia sets were amplifier failures and all 3 failed in under 1 year's time.

I have no experience with the GMX. I would imagine the amplifier failure was fixed as these were released well after the original ProMedia 5.1's but I'd google to find out for sure.

How do these compare to the Z-5500 by Logitech?

I'm a logitech guy, but I've seen these speakers in action. They are Vastly Superior to the GMX's. I think earlier posters were comparing them to the original promedia's, which were still much better than GMX's. These were about equivalent with the Logi 680's. As the 5500's should be "marginally" better than the 680's... and so on

I got some of the original Promedia's with an Alienware (what a rip-off BTW) order about 4 years back. Great speakers... although my parents and dorm neighbors didn't like them too much. These puppies can get LOUD, even after I lost my 2 rear satellites Anyhow, i've never heard of the amp failure... has this been a frequent problem?

From my experience with the first gen Promedias I would jump on these if I was building my new system already. I hope there's a deal like this in 6 months...

The amp failure was only a problem with the original 5.1 promedias.
Klipsch even extended the warrantee on those speakers a year because of the problems.

The newer ultra's don't have these problems.

Most people say Logitech speakers are very unbalanced. By this I mean the bass is too exaggerated. The klipsch speakers also have two way satelites. Logitech's are a little less expensive and do have a dolby decoder with them.
