I have heard the 4.1's at best buy and they sound awesome, I saw a deal for this set and I am wondering how it compares, it gives you two subs which is great for bass, but it almost halves the wattage to the sats., will this compromise the sound quality over the 4.1's? I have the Hercules game Theater XP, will I be able to connect a seperate center channel to it for DVD,s or will I need an amplifier. LMK what you guys think, or if you know of any reviews of these.

Should I go with a flavor of klipsch or go with something else?

yeah the new klipsch's come with the updated amp. The new amp, the CP-1, offers many fixes that the older amp had. It also fixes the crossover so you get better midrange. The main feature is the addition of a headphone jack. Overall, you won't notice much of a difference at all between the older klipsch's and the newer ones.

About the CP1 helping with the crossover, this is false. The speaker circuitry itself had to be modified to get the full effect. Why would the wattage be halfed in the 4.2 setup? You are taking 2 independant 2.1 setups and using both of them.

on the 4.1's each sat gets 60 watts and the sub gets 160 watts.

on the 4.2, each sat gets 35 watts and each sub gets 130 watts.

MikeyP, in response to the wattage. I was talking about the satellite wattage. In the 4.2 setup the sats only get 35 watts, in the 4.1 model they get 60 watts.

You do not need 2 Subs.

Low Frequency is non directional to the human ear.

You won't gain any benefit from having a separate sub for the rear bass, all bass should be ambient.

I don't know if I agree on that, but we all have are own opinions, what is everybodys opinion about the lower wattage in the sats, do they still sound good?

I thought he was saying that by hooking up two 2.1 systems, that would cut the wattage in half, like you weren't also introducing a new amplifier. Just some fuzzy wording Personally, I'd go for the 4.1's out of any of the Klipsch systems. You aren't going to get any better bass out of two of the 2.1 subs (they only have one driver). Plus, the 4.1 is cheaper and you get more wattage to the sats, which need it worse than the sub anyway.

So, I am going to buy a Klipsch system.

What should I go for (best bang for the buck)? - the older system for about $70 less, or the new one?

The $900 Klipsch Quintet Micro theatre (5.1) is way out of my price range.

mikef208, did you hear the Klipsch 4.1's or the older v.2-400's?

I just got back from Beast Buy and they don't have ANY 4.1's in their system - just the older system (and only 50 left for the whole company). They sound pretty good even if they are not the latest and greatest.

Ok, there seems to be some confusion in this post. First, the new 4.1 Promedia's only difference is the preamp with headphone feature, and the slightly higher gain preamp. Klipsch confirmed the sound quality is not any different, they are just slightly louder. The added $50 price tag is for the new preamp only. Also, the 2.1 sets only get 35 watts to the sats and the sub only gets 130 watts. The 4.1's get 60 to the sats and 160 to the sub. The sub is also physically different. The 4.1 set has two cross-firing 6.5in drivers, while the 2.1's only have one 6.5 in. driver. I have two 4.1 sets running as a 8.2 setup and the extra sub does make a big difference. Even with the sub knobs turned all the way down, I still get a fairly hard hitting bass. With both sub knobs at the THX setting (about 1/2 way), they really thump with absolutely no distortion. The midrange on the PM's is not bad, it is just a more bright sound then the more neutral mids of the BA's. To some people this sounds bad, it sounds great to me, especially when I switched to my Acoustic Edge soundcard...

So what are you saying would be a good way to go. I am looking for something that sounds good during games, music, and DVD's( I may buy an extra center channel for this, if I end up with a 4.? setup). So let me know what you think is better. I have the Hercules game Theater XP sound card, just to let you know. Also how do you hook up two sets of 4.1's?

<<The v2-400 has been discontinued. The upgraded version has been released, but is currently
back ordered until the end of this month. It is the 4.1 system. The 4.2, I
think, is a much better system, especially for the price. I would go ahead
and take advantage of the deal.
Thanks,

Noriaki is right. Go to any REAL audio store and they'll tell you the same thing. And no, Circuit City, Good Guys, and Best Buy don't count. Then again, if you're bred on Aiwa mini-systems then this is a moot point. A second sub may be louder but certainly not deeper.
