Not to thread crap but IMO Klipsch computer speakers are a brand to stay away from. They sound pretty good when they're new and still working. However, too many sets fail and the volume knob always gets 'staticy' down the road. I had 2 sets and both sets developed the scratchy volume knob then later died completely. My brother had the same set and his did the same thing.

Mwuahah, even if I wanted to get them my credit card doesn't have enough credit until I pay it off. Lucky me.

I've had my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers for nearly 4 years now and they still worked the same as they did since the day I bought them. They are some of the most crisp and clear speakers I've ever heard and I am satified with them.

I recommend them

You have the 5.1 set?

My 5.1 set has been good for over 3-4 years now with no problems.

I currently have 2.1s cause my primary computer is a laptop but before the laptop I had a desktop with 5.1s on it for 2 years and they sounded the same till the day I sold them. My laptop has only one output plug for audio so i had to switch to 2.1s. My friend who also is an AT member (toekramp) had a set of klipsch go bad on him after 2 years and klipsch just sent him brand new ones after a single phone call. top notch customer service too i'd say

This happens to many types of electronics after several years of use. Go to Radio Shack or an electronic supply store and buy some silicon component cleaner. Spray it as close to the
actual moving parts (usually a potentimeter) as you can and work it to its full extents. Has worked on everything I have owned, from computer parts to all of my 8 guitar amps.

I love my Ultra 5.1s, they sound great and keep working. Kliphsch has the great customer service you would expect from a high end audio not a computer company (remember, these promedia sets are just a foray into the computer market...they are still very much in the strict audio business).

I dont know how the volume knob on these would get staticy since it is digital. It is possible that it could stop functioning but its not a potentiometer that will get crunchy over time.

I know the original (non-ultra) sets were known to have amps in the subs that died but they were very good about replacing them.

Are you actually serious, klipsch are generally regarded as some of the best computer speakers you can buy, especially the ultra 5.1's.

Uh, yes, I'm actually serious. Do a little searching and you'll find Klipsch had heat/quality issues with their 4.1's (both of mine were these). Also look here Link

As far as cleaning the volume knob, it wouldn't have helped. Both my sets and my bro's set failed completely. Both after the 1 year warranty. I've got Klipsch front and center channel home theater speakers but I'll never buy Klipsch computer speakers again.

I've had the 2.1s for 5 years and they're still amazing.

I had to return 2 units and finally gave up and got my money back.
Note that Klipsch Customer Support is the BEST!

Second set is dead. I bought them from a Best Buy 200 miles away. I can return them, but if I want a new set I have to fork over an extra $40 in shipping. God, I hate Best Buy. I cannot imagine the feeling someone who bought these for $450 went through when they stopped working.

I feel for ya.

I believe my 4.1's were $299 and $250 and both died post warranty. That said, you can probably understand my current dislike for Klipsch computer speakers.

Is there anyway to pricematch these to another store? I am looking around but it looks like I am wasting my time. Does anyone know of any chain B&Ms that carry these?
