Can I plug my Promedia 5.1 Ultras into the Audigy 2 using the digital connector? If so, is there some particular adapter I need to purchase? Thanks.

No, not unless you buy a digital decoder for you 5.1 Ultra's. Klipsch sells them for about $100 on their website.

I believe what distinguishes the Ultra from standard Promedias is that you get the decoder with the package. All you should need to connect it to an Audigy is an RCA to 1/8th (male-mini) cable.

So, you're saying that I just connect my speakers to the sound card with one cable?

I already have three 1/8" cables, each for the center, front, and rear connections.

Thanks for your replies.

BTW, on the back of the subwoofer, there is a jack for an input called SWS, which is supposedly some add-on subwoofer. Does anyone know about this?

For the digital connector, all you need is one cable. If you want surround sound in games or DVD-A discs you need to use the 3 1/8" cables for analog out.

The SWS input is to allow you to daisy chain subwoofers. You can buy additional Klipsch subwoofers like the one the Ultra Promedias come with and connect them together for deeper base.

Alright....

So if i were to use the digital connection, I see there are no ports on the back of the subwoofer that are for the digital connector.

Also, if I were to use the digital cable, would it be a 1/8" cable? But I wouldn't have the 5.1 sound anymore?

i own the 5.1 ultras,no there is no digital anything. only analog. it doesn't come with the decoder. the difference between the 5.1 and 5.1 ultras is a 20% bigger subwoofer encloser, 60% longer and larger subwoofer voice coil, and new mid range satillite cone material. as well as new satillite casing and a new pod.

the SWS is pretty much just a single channel RCA outpout,i tested it,nothing fancy. it pretty much only intended for use with the SWS Klipsch sub add on.

so if you get the ultras you can only use analog unless you get a decoder which is extra ontop of the already hefty price tag.

i recommend the logitechs.

If I were to get teh decoder, how would I connect it to my Audigy 2? My soundcard has no coaxial connection or s/p dif.

is it just the audigy2 without the front bay?

edit: sorry, read quickly,i didn't realize you already owned them. i'd prefer just using the analog connectors with the supplied 1/8" inch cables klipsc supplied, they are well sheidled and great for the job. your going to have to convert to analog again somewhere along the line since the speakers only accept analog. better off just keeping it that way.

Actually I do have the front bay, so could I use the optical output? Would that be a good investment if I did that?

heres a link for the decoder and a list of all its inputs:
here

personally its a big waste of money unless you want to hook those speakers up to multiple sources and have them for all around entertainment speakers with a dvd player, maybe a console, tv,etc. your choice. but if you want it merely for PC sound,i think thats a huge waste of money.

Whoops, I didn't notice you had them already either. If they don't have a decoder, as it appears it doesn't, then there is no reason to buy the decoder. The analog ouput is the recommended method output for the Audigy line, so stick with it.

I believe you don't know what you're talking about.

EDIT: Oops, looks like I was a little late on that one.

The A2 has a digital output jack. You can use a 1/8" to mono or stereo RCA cable to connect to the digital coaxial input on a decoder or receiver. However, given the high quality of the DACs on the A2, its likely that the analog connections will sound as good or better.
