Klipsch ProMedia GMX D-5.1 speaker system $149 Shipped, no tax or rebates

Amazon has these speakers on sale for the price the 2.1's sold for originally. The kicker is that shipping is free because these guys weigh alot. This is one of the best 5.1 systems for the computer.....

This system doesn't acccept analog 5 channel input. For PC usage, it seems you need a certain type of motherboard or soundcard to enjoy surround sound. I read even an Audigy 2 doesn't give you a digital 5 channel sound. Not sure what the ideal set-up would be for for a PC using this system. Until I find out, I'll hold of buying this.

The price is quite hot though. I saw a refurbished version of these on Klipsch.com for $99 ( with shipping it was closer to $125). So $150 for a shipped retail sounds good.

Good price, but as above poster said, these only take Digital inputs for 5.1 sound so unless you have a Soundstorm, these aren't going to work for gaming.

Thankfully I do have a soundstorm and love these speakers.

How I can get Soundstorm ... NForce4 doesn't come with it. Is there a sound card out there that allows full 5 channel digital output.

Man I really wanted these, too bad I don't have soundstorm. I am a little confused though, doesn't the Audigy 2 have a SPDIF output? Why doesn't it work with these?

The GMX's are inferior to the ProMedias. Also, get ready for some "hiss". Good price on good, but not great, pc speakers.

Yes, HDA (Bluegears) X-Mystique and Turtlebeach Montego offer DDL (Dolby Digital Live) now.

Audigy cards (and other non DDL digital out cards) will only get you 5.1 real surround from things that are Already DD encoded (like DVD movies).

These speakers have PrologicII and 5 channel stereo though, so on non-DDL cards with digital out, you can still have all the speakers play, but it will not be true surround like was intended for gaming.

If these speakers have a Dolby Digital decoder, then yes.

Unless it has DDL encoding, it's not going to get you surround sound in games.

I just ordered 10 mins ago and it is showing a week for a ship date and two weeks for delivery. Make sure you check the PC related issues w/ surround as they appear to be directed towards console games.

I just couldn't pass it up @ $100 shipped. The box is like 40lbs. How much is home delivery worth by itself? hehe

I am in as well. I don't care about 2.1 sound. That works for me, but I can also use this for my home theater sound...I live in a tiny apt and this will work better than the speakers in my tv. For $99 shipped, I can't go wrong, plus I can use it with my Ipod.
