Klipsch Promedia speakers - are they really that good?

I looking to replace my old Altec-Lansing speakers and have read and heard about the Klipsch Promedia speakers. I'm thinking about getting the 2.1 for music and some games (not really interested in the surround 5.1's)...

It's kind of hard to make out the sound quality in Best Buy with all the noise around, so to someone who has Klipsch speakers at home where you really can test them out - how are they - are they worth my 180.00 dollars?

Thanks!

Yes. They are not audiophile but excellent for multimedia - especially gaming and movies.

I have no experience with your current speakers but am generally familar with Altec home speakers. The Klipsch should be an upgrade . . .

I am really surprised you could not tell at Beast Buy - crank em up!

I have the ATP3's on the workstation behind me, and they perform quite well. I have had them for around 8 months, and they crank out the tunes, but the deep bass is lacking a little. Overall they are an attractive speaker for the price.

On my system I have the Promedia 2.1's w/ Monster Cable upgrade wires and find them to be the most robust computer speakers on the market right now. They are extrememly loud, and the crisp mids & highs are pleasant to the ear. The bass is not muddy and overdone like other speakers, and when positioned properly (corner or under desk) you will get superb low end. If you have 180.00 to spend, look no further than Klipsch.

I also have a full set of Klipsch Reference series in my home theater.

I think if you are gonna spend that kind of money, you should get the Logitech z560 4.1 speaker set. The 2.1 Klipsch speakers just aren't the same compared to its bigger brothers. I think for the price, the Logitechs sound better. If you are interested in very good music play back, I think some sort of Monsoon set of speakers would be better.

Um the 2.1 use the exact same spearkers that the 4.1's use, just minus 2 of them???

The 4.1's offer dual 6.5's for the sub, and more power.

i would get the logitech z560's over the 2.1 OR the 4.1 klipsch's. they are $199 at best buy and between $130 and $150 on the web.

Thanks everyone I'm going to go hit BB now - I'm still leaning toward the Klipsch 2.1's but I'll give the logitech z560's a listen..

umm actually, the 4.1's satellites are 60 watts, and the 2.1's satellites are 35.

<<umm actually, the 4.1's satellites are 60 watts, and the 2.1's satellites are 35. >>

Everyone is actually wrong in this assumption.

"MAXIMUM BURST POWER OUTPUT: 200W Note: All Channels Driven Simultaneously " = 2.1 solution
MAXIMUM BURST POWER OUTPUT: 400W Note: Simultaneously, all amplifier channels driven = 4.1

35 + 35 = 70watts & 130watts per sub = 200 total watts (2.1)
35 + 35 + 35 + 35 = 140watts & (2) 130 watts per sub = 400 total watts (4.1)

The only difference between the overall system is the lack of dual 6.5 subs in the 2.1 solution. If you dont like overkill bass, it should work perfect for you. The satellites has the same amount of watts and sound the exact same.

I have them and they absolutely rock. They are one of the best investments I've ever made for my pc.
Just make sure you have a good sound card to go with them, such as a audigy. The old sb live doesn't
do them justice.

make sure that best buy will accept an open box return on them. buy each. take them home. listen to them. pick which one sounds better to you in your setup. take the other one back.

or you can take the logitechs, put them in the klipsh box, and return them, if bb asks any questions, just say "oops, sorry dawg, my bad" and run out the door as fast as you can

Thats how you got your $180 klipsch 4.1s...

I haff returned from the Beast - I have bought:

The Logitech z560's! It was very hard to choose between the two, but I liked the sound on the Logitech's just a *wee* bit better, plus - and I didn't think it would matter about 4.1 - but having the 4.1 system for the same price as the Klipsch 2.1 made them just too tempting to pass up... It took me many a listen to choose and but in the end I did buy the Logitechs...

Thanks again to everyone who helped me make a choice!

Since you arent interested in the surround sound, and arent primarily looking at games, Id say the 2.1s would be best. For music, the Klipsch speakers cant be beat.

If you look at my computers, all of them have Klipsch speakers on them. Great company that provides a wonderful product and good support. The Z560s are good for gaming and have a wonderful price point. For music you can really tell the difference between the two though. The Z560s have a big boomy bass, as many have commented here and in other threads before, which works really nice in games. But for music it comes across as not only excessive, but muddy. It seems as though they were looking at getting sheer power out of it rather than clarity, which as I said is good enough for games, but not music. The Klipsch sub has a much tighter bass, much clearer. That is further helped out by the satellites, which handle a fair amount of the upper end bass.

Hey audio guru's I've got an off topic question. Right now I've got a receiver/amp, a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers, and a 10" powered sub hooked up to my PC through a SB Audigy. Should I get another pair of home theter speakers to add to it, or get an actual PC speaker set such as the Klipsch's?

I listened to them [Promedia 5.1] for a few minutes with typical pop crap. My wife thinks they "rock". (at least for computer speakers) Then reality set in as I fired up Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures At an Exhibition and listening fatigue sets up very fast. The bass in the 140 Hz area is weak and what I heard was inaccurate. Bass below 35Hz is very limited before it gets out of control. For the "boom+crash" sound tracks in most games and movies, these speakers will please most audiences I suppose.

NOTE: What do you expect for $400? In HiFi, 400 can't even buy you a decent crossover let alone a system!

Cheers!
