Klipsch speakers blowing fuses

I just got a pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers, and for some reason, the fuses keep blowing out. I was in the middle of playing Earth & Beyond when poof, out it went. A friend who owns the speakers said to check the fuse, and sure enough, it was toast. So I went out to buy new ones. Well, three fuses later I had to stop. As soon as I switched on the power, it would go poof, blowing out the fuse immediately. I even disconnected the speakers from the computer and it still blew the fuse.

Any ideas what would blow the fuse as soon as the speakers are turned on?

Bad power? Overvoltage from your socket? Anything related to physical damage to the product I'd have called the manufacturer to ask about it.

did you replace the fuse with the right kind? subwoofers usually take 'slow blow' fuses that resist the frequent spikes a subwoofer sees. If you did, I think something is defective, time to send it for repair...or better yet return it if possible.

Slow blow fuses? Is that what they are called? I just got a bunch from Radio Shack.

It had been working find for the last 3 days, so the sudden poof is weird because nothing changed since they were installed.

Well that appears to have been it, but again, it was a careful process. I couldn't just put in a slow blow fuse and turn it on, that blew the fuse as well. So I disconnected everything and put in a new fuse, then connected the speakers, then plugged it into the computer, and it appears to be working.

Could the carpet be the culprit? I mean, it never has in the past for previous speakers or computers.

See how long it works with the slow-blow fuses. It could be that a particularly loud passages was enough to pop the fuse. Typically, if a few blows immediately, there is a dead short somewhere, or the fuses are just too low of an amp rating to satisfy the inrush current of the device. If you blow the fuse again, I would look into sending them back/refund/exchange, whatever. Good Luck!

You carpet should have nothing to do with a fuse blowing. Why would you mention your carpet???

I think he meant ESD (static electricity)....and I don't think that wouldn't pop a fuse (an IC, maybe

OK. I have never had static take out a fuse, so I didn't consider it. I thought, maybe, the carpeting was against the grille of the speaker and muffling the sound so he turned it up louder or something.

Are they under warranty, I take it they are not. Something is wrong with them and it's probably above my head. If you run out of fuses, just get some nice thick wire and bridge that bad boy right up

For what it's worth, Klipsch has excellent customer support, why not try them directly?
