I'm actually looking for a good work, folding knife that is Carbon steel...one where the screw that holds the blade into the handle will not fall out. that is a big problem for me, all that open and closing and usually either that screw will come out or the little ones that hold the belt clip on will fall out.

recomends?

Spyderco Calypso with the Super Blue blade steel. They were a sprint run(only made a limited # of them) so you'll have to look on ebay to find one most likely.

have a $15 kershaw and a $60 huntsman lite. both awesome.

They both need constant sharpening.

i want a switchblade knife. laws be damned. found a Boker Kalashnikov with AUS 8 steel whatever that is for reasonable.
the carbon ones i've found so far are just way too much just to use as a work knife.

Yea, that's the problem with most of my knives... they just don't hold an edge well. Granted, I have a ton of cheap knives that use mediocre steel, but it's gotten to a point where my expensive (and superior) knives are there mostly for show for the fear of dulling them.

I seriously need to invest in a whetstone though... I currently sharpen my cheapass knives with one of those electric knife sharpeners typically marketed for kitchen knives.

Problem is, that most switchblades are way to fucking expensive. They bank on the novelty of the switchblade mechanism. Truthfully, spring assisted knives do 95% the same thing as switchblades. Only difference, is that instead of pushing a button to activate the mechanism, you're either pushing the thumbstud or pressing a lever on the back of the knife and the blade flips open.

The absolute best folding knife ever made is easily the Barry Wood MK1.

It would be the best >$500 you ever spent on a tool.

I am the only one here that knows about these?

BARRY WOOD!

u really use it or just collect?

lolz

It's a workhorse. I picked it up when a friend of mine dragged me to a show in like 1990-91. I don't collect anything except pool cues. Even so, there's nothing I could do to this knife. The lock is still as tight as the day I got it, and it was already over 20 years old then.

who stabs people anymore?

Aren't you a new Doc? Just think of it as job security.

I usually carry a SOG Flash I half-serrated, but the wife and kids got me a Skeletool for fathers day. The blade on it doesn't seem half bad.

I have owned many many folding knives, and have concluded that Spyderco is the best vendor in terms of high quality, form-over-function folding knives for the money. I love the Spydie hole ergonomically, and they always seem to nail highly functional designs, in great steels, for the price. Actually I sold my Chris Reeve Sebenza (a $500 knife) after concluding that I preferred my Taiwan-built, $150 Spyderco Sage 2 in all respects.

Having returned to the Boy Scouts when my son came of age, I find myself looking for a folder that is as sturdy and as big as a fixed blade. My current favorite knife is a 2000 Marine Kabar, for which the blade is about 8 inches long. Unfortunately the Boy Scouts do not allow fixed blade knives on their outings. Has anyone come across a larger tactical folder with sturdy engineering?

The main brands that I gravitate to are Benchmade, Buck, Marbles, Uncle Henry and Case.

My everyday carry:

Excuse the crappy pic.

thanks
I checked them out online on both their own sites and distributers but couldnt find anything with a blade bigger than 4 inches.
I would really like to find a folder with a 6 - 8 inch blade for a total length of 12 inches or so. I have run accross a few but they were all flimsy construction.
