Coins... aren't those round, metally thingies?

As it only has a marking on one side it may well be a stamp seal rather than a coin.

I used to collect coins and I've never seen anything like that.

If I had to take a guess, I would say it wasn't a coin either.

It looks like just a round blank of metal in which a stamp was applied. This could have been someone's stamp or seal back way long ago. He who carried the seal or stamp of the liege spoke in behalf of him in his place. I would say it is medieval if it is legit.

I'm sure it's not a coin.

You might have better luck visiting a college and showing it to a history professor. If that doesn't work, ask at a larger library reference desk what ideas they might have. Some reference librarians can be remarkably clever about finding things out.

If you're talking about the chemical symbol for silver, it's Ag, not Ar (Argon). The periodic table is a fairly recent innovation, anyway...

No I am not talking about the periodic table of elements (I know what that is) I am talking about coins and coin terms. AR is silver. See here for an example.
