District Attorney who wants his name known + girl looking for a book deal = This case. At least thats how this seems to me.

That is how it seems to you? what exactly do you have to base that on? Do you know all the fact of the case? The little blurb linked in this thread is all that has come out from this case. How can you read that short blurb and come to that conclusion.

I'm not saying he did or didn't do it, but christ, some of you guys have really got to grasp reality. It's Kobe Bryant so it MUST be a made up story of a woman starving for attention, because athletes never do anything wrong.

pyonir.. TRY not to Sterotype Athletes as all being the same

Show me where I STEREOTYPED athletes.

It's Kobe Bryant so it MUST be a made up story of a woman starving for attention, because athletes never do anything wrong.

I understood the part in bold to be a deragatory/snide remark that athletes are known for trouble... BTW.. I do not want any of this to be taken personal... just my opinion.

Kobe was the reason I started watching the NBA again... I cannot believe this is happening....

It's called sarcasm, not stereotyping. I never said all athletes do something wrong.

Many athletes are known for not being in trouble. some athletes are know for being in trouble. that was not a stereotypical comment nor a generalization. It was a sarcastic 'snide' remark.

Sometimes I forget what the ATOT forum is like...

It seemed like every reply I read called him a child molestor or said he is probably guilty... ... I just couldn't belive they could say things like that about someone they know nothing about...they are just haters....

So...by the time I got to your post I thought it was more bad talk about athletes... etc.. etc...

If these charges are truly false.. what should be done to the accusers?

Something similar to this happened to Jerome Bettis last year. Some lady accused him of sexual assault but it turned out to be part of a blackmail scheme. So its certainly possible that its a gold digger.

"And felony sexual assault is the broadest charge I have ever heard. "Any sexual conduct you don't want." So if I go on a date with a girl, and I kiss her for a few seconds, but she doesn't want that, technically, she could press charges against me for felony sexual assault."

Colorado Revised Statutes

Colorado Revised Statutes

I love how you guys are making excuses for him.

BTW, just to clairfy the Colorado statute, felony sexual assault is pretty serious stuff. It definitely does not apply to feeling a woman up. For the charge of sexual assualt to apply, the act has to involve either ?sexual intrusion? or ?sexual penetration.? The requirements for sexual intrusion include ?intrusion? into the genital or anal opening of another person?s body.? Sexual penetration is defined as ?sexual intercourse, cunnilingus, fellatio, analingus, or anal intercourse.?

Add two and two together, with the statement that the police have enough evidence to convince a grand jury to move forward, and it would seem to me like they have semen samples and or physical evidence of rape - bruises, etc.

Then why wouldn't he be charged with rape?!? That's my question. And the site you sent me on felony sexual assault said any sexual act you don't want. (the first one) Maybe we're clearing him too fast, but too many people on here are jumping right to he's guilty. Like no one has ever gotten arrested/taken to court that was innocent, like no charges were ever trumped up.

Oh and also - A lot of athletes do plenty of stuff wrong. This just seems way off mark for Kobe.

Rape IS felony sexual assault; it's just the legal term for it in Colorado.

Something here smells.

After a series of interviews and a review of the physical evidence, investigators met with representatives for District Attorney Mark Hurlbert and concluded they had enough evidence for the felony sexual assault count, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

and then the next paragraph

Hurlbert said Sunday night that he hadn't made a decision on whether to file charges and had not yet seen the arrest report. He said the sheriff's office asked a judge for an arrest warrant instead of requesting one through his office, the usual practice.

Now the way I read that second paragraph is that the usual practice is the distric attorney obtains the arrest warrent.

Why did the cops not follow the usual practice here. Normally the higher the profile the defendant the more detail is needed. Why not go to the DA? the DA has yet to see even the arrest report?

I am sorry but if I had to make a conclusion at this point I would have to say something doesn't look right.

I don't care anything about the nba or Kobe so I'm just gonna comment on it as a news story.

1. From what I can tell the Sheriff went to a judge with the evidence and asked for a warrant so it didn't look like the DA was out for Kobe. I could be wrong but that seems like why that was done that way.

2. In America you can have most any person arrested for almost anything on as little as your word. That is our system.

3. Kobe is no longer a "kid". He has been an adult for many years now and calling him a kid won't make the things that he does or the things that happen to him juvenille. He may be young but he is very much a man.

4. Most people have a biased view of everything that goes on be it for or against and that's just the way it is. They usually feel the same way even after the facts prove different, that's just the way they are.

Both scenarios, he did it and she's looking for money, is common in our society so it won't surprise me whichever one is proven. To me it's just the news.

I found this interesting, from:

Lakers star turns self in

Mark Hurlbert, district attorney for Colorado's 5th Judicial District in Breckenridge, said Sunday evening he would begin reviewing the case today.
He said it is possible that no charges will be filed.

He criticized the statement issued by the sheriff's department, which said that investigators and the district attorney had "concluded they had enough evidence to charge Kobe Bryant with felony sexual assault."

"The DA has not decided on charges," Hurlbert said. "The sheriff's office went and got a warrant without the DA's office OK."

Andree said she thought Hurlbert had agreed charges would be filed.

"Everybody met and he was there," Andree said. "He might have remembered it differently than I did. Mark's a great guy. He's an excellent DA. I have every faith in him he will make the decision that's right."

Thanks...that sheds more light into this story.

Let's not make this a religious thread. This is pretty unfortunate thing to happen to him and his family
