And although s0me0nesmind1 is inaccurate in his in his claim that Kobe was ever the top scorer of all-time and I would laugh in the face of anyone who would claim he was better than Mr. Michael Jordan, what Kobe accomplished over nearly two decades has certainly cemented his place in the general top tier of pro hoops Valhalla.

Yeah my bad on that - News put the headlines (and even in the articles about his death) something to the tune of "Lebron James just passed Kobe's all-time scoring record last week with his last tweet"....

I naturally presumed "record" to mean he was the current record-holder when they were just referring to HIS record.

Regardless I figure he is in the top 3 best players.

I also don't get why everyone always defends Jordan as the best without question.... I mean really, how much of it was himself vs. his solid Bulls team? It's just like Lebron, he isn't that great by himself - but put 3 star players on one Miami team and (surprise surprise) they won.

^^ You love to have super strong opinions about things you are clueless about. The troll is strong with this one.

How about sticking to the issue at hand?

Posting in active topics on a random off-topic computer geek forum indicates to you how much of a "strong opinion" I have on sports?

Okay bud, whatever floats your boat.

The both of you need to stop bickering in this thread.

I am amazed at the out pouring of Love for this man and his family!
Kobe touched a lot of people by his playing basketball!
There were huge crowds and probably still are outside staples Arena!
Plus the spur of the moment Tributes that various teams displayed last evening!
RIP Kobe!! You touched a world!!
I particularly found Kareem`s short take on Kobe`s death to be touching!
You could tell he was really touched!

If you didn't see it, they did an impromptu tribute to him at the beginning of the Grammy's. Alicia Keys and Boyz 2 Men sang a little bit of "It's So Hard to Say Good Bye" which was nice.

I especially liked the silent tributes teams' players gave him at the start of the initial NBA games yesterday. In honor of his two playing numbers, 8 and 24, this happened:

"Nearly every team playing across Sunday's eight-game schedule -- not long after it was learned that Bryant died in a helicopter crash at age 41 -- took a planned shot clock violation. Teams took turns holding the ball for 24 seconds or eight seconds in the backcourt in honor of the No. 24 and No. 8 jerseys that Bryant wore. The tributes drew standing ovations across the board."

^^^ Classy and elegant!!

RIP Kobe.....never a huge fan but respected his game and play. No one deserves such a fate, esp. the kids. Sad, really.

But he's never been a top three or top five overall player, unless you choose to forget the likes of Jordan, Kareem, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Jerry West, and a few others. But most on here seem to live in the now and completely ignore history, such as yourself. Guess it's more a I didn't see them so they don't count mentality....or sheer ignorance of the game's history and players.

Honestly everyone is going to have some bias. Naturally if you were a San Antonio fan and watched him every night, you're going to look at Tim Duncan more than others.

But anyhow, another thread was made for this discussion.

I've been practicing Stocism of late and Kobe's death fits in with the saying Momento Mori. Remember that you are going to die.

It doesn't matter if you're young, old, rich, poor, etc.We all share the same fate. Yes, it's sad. But remember to not take life too seriously, because in the end the only thing that matters is how you treated other people. With love, respect, and undestanding. And, are you living life to the fullest. What ever that means for you. Or, are you wasting it away via complaining.

The thing that struck me when i heard about this was he was only 41 years old. Then to later find out there were his daughter & other kids.
I hope they can all Rest In Peace

Dude had you read the whole thread you would have seen where the mods asked to keep this a using what was said by a mod --
Folks, we realize OT is legendary for irreverence. However, in "condolence" threads such as this, we must insist that posters confine themselves to positive remembrances and respectful comments. Posters who cannot or will not hew to this directive will be infracted.
This a condolence thread.......not a basketball discussion thread...

flag half staff why??
If you have nothing good to say maybe you should start another thread instead of crapping on this thread...
Short Version --
LOS ANGELES -- Mayor Eric Garcetti ordered city flags across Los Angeles to be flown at half-staff Monday, one day after Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter and seven other people were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas.

"All @LACity flags will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and all of the victims in Sunday's tragic helicopter crash," the mayor tweeted at 7:25 a.m.

"We lost an angel in the City of Angels," Garcetti told KNX 1070 Monday morning, referring to Kobe. He added that some sort of citywide celebration of Bryant's life was likely in the near future, but said it was too early to know any details.

flag half staff why??

Why not?

This is the flag (Flag of Los Angeles) that is half-mast., not the Flag of the United States.

"All @LACity flags will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and all of the victims in Sunday's tragic helicopter crash," the mayor tweeted at 7:25 a.m.

This is a take from a witness that seems pretty knowledgeable. I think it's pretty safe to say that they did not suffer and probably had no clue anything was going to happen.

yeah, I can't hear that right now, but from watching the detailed assessment linked earlier, and the flight control data, with the chopper likely flying directly into a mountain at full speed while turning, I think only the pilot had any sense of trouble, and only then for a few seconds, maybe.
