I don't care that much, as the NFL is far superior to the NBA, but it'd be a shame if NBA fans refused to appreciate a player that is arguably the greatest scorer in basketball history. Not greatest player, necessarily, but perhaps greatest scorer.

As a pure basketball player he is no doubt the best in the league. That isn't what this is about though. This is about his personal character. This is his biggest flaw and the only impediment in the way of him ever becoming as great as Jordan.

He cheated on his wife in a suspected rape case. He could not get along with Shaq, even though they could have arguably won 2 or 3 more championships together. He has been criticized as being a terrible leader many times, and has alienated himself from his teammates often. This latest crap should have been handled inside, there was no reason for him to go to every media outlet in the world and cry like this. There is no question he has been wanting out of the Lakers for a while now. This is all part of his plan to get out.

You said its his only impediment to being Jordan's equal, but then gave numerous reason's below it that are far from jordan'esque as well. There are a helluva lot more reason's than that imo as well, but that's for another thread.

Amazing athlete? There are at least 50 guys in the NBA right now that are just as good as Kobe. Give them the same "white glove" treatment he gets from the NBA (i.e. gets the benefit of the call when driving with or handling the ball, gets to take 3-4-or more steps to the hoop after picking up the dribble, etc etc) and there you go. All the Kobe's, LeBron's, McGrady's, Hill's, etc need to thank their lucky charms that the NBA needs "superstars" on the court because it sure won't survive from actual skill.

you must be one of those guys who wants to go on pros vs joes and try to school the ex athletes... sad...

anyway, he is a great athlete.. amazing talent... i hope he gets traded cause he can't win on the lakers... but i think he is a cry baby.. he bitches and moans about his team.. dude, if you didn't bitch and moan about shaq and getting the ball, you'd have 3 or 4 more rings right now... those two were unstoppable.. oh.. but kobe wasn't getting the ball enough, so i guess that means the most dominate center of his time has to go elsewhere... just silly

Guys.......he's not going anywhere. I just listened to the latest Dan Patrick interview and Kobe completely backed off his previous stance. The Steven A. Smith interview he did was before he talked with Phil Jackson, the one person he trusts within the Laker's organization. PJ has a lot of confidence that they can get this mess sorted out and get the Lakers back on track. This has really swayed Kobe's opinion a lot and his stance during this interview was almost a complete 180.

He is frustrated no doubt, and if there are no major changes between now and '09 he will re-sign elsewhere. But between now and then he isn't going anywhere.

Sounds good but the facts are different from what you claim

Shaq started the 03-04 season with a new contract extension signed a couple years back..
Well.. what did he do at the beginning of the season .. He yelled at Dr. Buss during a preseason scrimmage..
"You gonna pay me my fcking money now.. Pay me my money" Shaq was demanding.. DEMANDING another contract extension that would have paid him raises all the way up to age 38 and at age 38 he would have been guaranteed THIRTY EIGHTY MILLION dollars

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Is that Kobe's fault?^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Jordan was hardly a man of character. He got into fights with his teammates (I know of one situation in particular where he physically punched a teammate during practice), has a gambling habit that isn't an addiction only because he can afford it, and cheated on his wife. It was never proven that Kobe raped the woman. I don't condone cheating at all, but it doesn't take away from the fact that he has scored more points in a single game and will likely score more points total than Jordan. He lacks the defensive skills Jordan had, but can score better than anyone playing now, and arguably better than anyone since Wilt Chamberlain.

Anyone who doesn't think that cheating is common among stars is naive. Regardless whether you are in movies, music, or sports when you're famous and loaded with cash you have a steady stream of women opening their legs for you. The temptation can be hard to resist especially when you're on the road all the time. Kobe was a rookie and didn't learn how to be discreet like some of the more established stars. I need not mention Wilt Chamberlain.

The reason he's not going to win in LA is because he fscked the entire team up with his antics. Nobody wants to work with this guy. I'm glad Shaq got a ring with another team before Kobe. Sweet sweet justice.

Did you read the article where Shaq agreed it was the Lakers, not Kobe, that made sure he went somewhere else?

Or are you referring to other antics that I'm not familiar with?

I think the only thing we can gleam from this fiasco is that there is blame to cast on all sides. Nobody is innocent. I wouldn't take a single thing that Snaq says as fact btw. The reason he left the lakers is because they didn't want to pay him 30 million until he was 38!

i think it's precisely for the media related reasons that kobe wants to leave LA. he put up with A LOT of BS on the lakers (the extent of his negative (and false) media coverage can easily be evidenced by many of the posts in this thread) and hopefully, he can have more piece of mind on another team.

oh and for those claiming that kobe's an average player (or that 50 other players in the NBA are better than kobe) are ****** idiots. seriously.

Kobe will have intense media coverage no matter where he goes. Maybe not as intense as LA, but it's not like it will ever go away. Did it ever go away for T.O?

He ran off the rest of the team and his salary is why the team is going nowhere.

Everyone says its gonna be a star for a star, but theres only a handful of teams that have the money and are willing to spend it. My guess is if he is traded it will be for several players.

Kobe does not go out of his way to make drama like TO does. No active athlete in pro sports today can match TO in this area.

yeap. it wouldnt be star for star. that is not going to happen. It would have to be $$+severeal decent players.

and that is not going to happen. kobe is either going to have to "retire" or stay where he is.
