Offensively Kobe is almost as good as MJ was in his prime. To say MJ in his prime is also starnge. Are we talking about the 25 year old MJ that could fly but who could not really hit from beyond 18 with any consistancy, but who was fast enough to not have to? Or are you talking about the 31 year old MJ who was still sickeningly athletic, but not like before and who could shoot the lights out on some nights and hold his own shooting from 3 on others?
Either way MJ would bury Kobe. Kobe has better range, but is a bit slower, can't fly like Mike and cannot play anywhere near the level of defense that MJ played. That is really the biggest difference between the two. Offensively I think Kobes better shot almost eqauls MJs supperior athleticism and toughness, but defensively Kobe cannot do what MJ did. He cannot time blocking shots anywhere near as well, not can he deal with anyone taller than 6'3. Anyone 6'4 or taller can and has posted him up.
As to Dr. J he was great, but not in MJ's league. Only three other non-Centers can compare to Jordan. Those would have to be Isiah Thomas, Magic, and Bird. I can't really say OScar Robertson because he played in such a different time that it would be unfair to pass judgement one way or the other.
As to Shaq, physically he is without equal. He is HUGE, monstrously stong, very agile, and a very good low post player. He does not have the desire to be a great defender, though he has the tools to be one. He just can't hit a free throw and there is no way that he could even really play a game of 1-1 with a guard. Neither one could stop the other with any consistancy. Shaq would get a few blocks and the guard would get a few steals but it would not be an intersting game as Shaq would back the smaller guy down and the smaller guy would take it outside and either shoot over or get around Shaq.
