Kodak DC260 Digital Camera (software)

Well, its bee a few years since I bought this beasty (about four years, I think), but I cannot find the original software for my Kodak DC260 digital camera. I tried to see if XP would install it (it did my HP 4000 laser printer), but it only has the drivers for three Kodak camera and that's it.

Venturing out to the Kodak website is not much help, either. First, if you select the XP platform it offers NO host software what so ever. I had to select Windows98 to find 'some' host software that is suppose to allow the camera to be connected to the computer. No dice. So, I guess its either the CF card reader or throw the damn thing out.

I have to say that this level of support isn't impressing me, and although my thoughts of last week in getting a new digital camera crossed my mind I'm thinking it won't be a Kodak camera. Maybe another manufacturer has beetr long-term support, but Kodak seems to have retired this camera with Windows 98.

I have the Kodak DC240 camera and I wouldn't even bother caring about the Kodak Software. It sucks. Just use the built in camera/scanner wizard in windows xp and you will be fine. It automatically imports the pictures from the camera and deletes them off the camera if you select the option. As for graphic editing, photo effects, and photo cataloging, go out and by the Digital Image Pro Picture It by Microsoft.

That should take care of all your needs. You may want to flash the firmware on your camera though. Goto Kodak's site for the firmware update.

And guess what happens when you attempt to install the Windows 98 Host Software in XP while Norton Corporate is running ... ? It detects it as a virus, hehehehe. So, I just hope this is an anomoly and continued to install (let's hope no virus-enabled Kodak s/w).

Ludacris, we must have both been composing a reply. Anyway, when I chose to connect via USB it didn't even detect the camera.

Hmm, must have been the USB port on that older PC that was causing the problems. I connected via the same method to my primary PC and it installed the camera drive, launch the image downloader software, and smiled like a charm without so much as a burp.

Yea, some motherboards based on the VIA chipset running AMD has problem with USB. That's why I dropped AMD and VIA to go straight back to Intel. Anyways, glad that worked out for you.
