Agreed, I picked up this camera at Staples about 3months ago when they have a demo sale. It's an excellent camera except for a small problem. I get errors alot while downloading the pics to my PC using USB. I wonder if anyone experiencing this problem. I reinstalled several times both win98se and DC280 softwares but still problem exists. No problem with serial connection except slow as hell. The errors I'm getting is either can't communicate with camera or reading error during downloading.

I gave up looking for this one and picked up the dc4800 from staples instead. See the thread for that one w/ AAA. After rebate the total I paid for it is $344.82. Not bad for a $600 camera.

I've had the same problem once. I'm not sure what is causing it either. I ended up reinstalling the software for the camera. I hope I don't have the problem again... it was very frustrating. ;-(

I have (had) that same camera. Ditto on the comments! I gave it away as a gift for my parents.

You'll have a hard time locating the 280 at most Staples...I've called 12 stores and they're all out of stock.

why use the camera to d/l the pics???.....i use this and it sees the card reader as a separate drive under windows explorer....and yes i am using win2kpro

also i am selling my 1 yr old dc280 and all the stuff it came with for $250 if anyone is interested.... cleaner@mindless.com (got a dc4800)

Those Sansdisk readers are like $25 at Amazon....I do the same thing as you'll spend $10000 in batteries if you use the camera to do transfers

This camera and the DC240 (my camera) use the same software suite. Mine is great, and you'll love this camera. Difference is the megapixels, and this camera only has a 2x optical zoom compared to the DC240's 3x optical zoom. But I called local Staples in L.A. and couldn't find this camera anywhere. I could have made fatty profit on eBBBay.

For those having problems with your camera being recognized when you use the USB connector, is it connected directly to a USB port or is it plugged into a hub? I got this camera about 3 months ago and it worked fine on the hub for about a week and then quit working. Called Kodak and was informed this was common when hooked to a hub and I should have no problems if it is connected directly. I plug it into the USB port directly now when I need to download pictures and I haven't had a single problem with it.

I was lucky enough to find two local to me (Glendale, CA) a couple weeks ago. At the time, I checked the whole country and called Texas and New York and couldn't find any more.

I love it. 32mb compact flash takes 54 pix. My only complaint: picture taking is SLOW. It takes a good 3-4 seconds to write a shot to the included Kodak cf. For a couple more days, you can pick up a SanDisk 64mb cf and get the USB reader free at BestBuy, $89.99. Or, if you feel a need for speed, get a Lexar Media 8x 128mb cf from TechStore.com for $112.47.

The DC240 is as good, just lower resolution. Again, I found a couple two weeks ago, but they are few and far between. I'd say, if you find one somewhere via Staples.com, call the store and have them touch it. A lot of stores show stock but can't find the item.

Otherwise, I'd say the deal is dead.

I plug directly to my PC USB port and still does it at least 50% of the times. I just checked out their site...theres a firmware upgrade and it address this issues of not seeing USB connection and downloading errors. so go check out the site. Hope this helps.
