i'm pretty sure they have some kind of quality guarantee.
why don't you just call them.
the worst case senario is they send you a replacement w/ no packaging.

Is the Sears 10% off deal still available? If so, that's the best bet on this camera now right?

Price match at Sears ~ 460
10% off -46
-100 rebate -100
-----
314+tax

Does anyone know if this is still possible?

About the discovery camera situation--

This is what will happen, and i know because it happened to me with harmony computers.com. Those small resellers like discovery camera are places that call you before finalizing your order. They will either call you or email you telling you that you really ordered the camera at $100 more than what was said in your cart (oh really?) and that you need to confirm that you realize the correct price. Its nice to dream, but getting it at $200 something won't happen. I hope at least discovery cameras doesn't blame you for "downloading the webpage wrong" like Harmonycomputers.com did to me. Oh, and Staples will definitely check to see the real price. Sorry. Good luck hunting for a better deal. I think the best hassle-free deal for people in CA right now is the gateway deal, that is if the coupon is still valid.

Ordered mine from Gateway $374 after rebate. Camera was backordered but estimated ship date is today, so backorder was only 2 days. FYI... Gateway $50 off coupon expires on April 1.

I finally ended up calling gateway and had them manually send the order through. What really pisses me off is that they were acting like my order never would have went anywhere and they never notified me of that. In addition, the camera is now backordered and my order page doesn't give an estimation on time. However, the product page for the camera still shows up as being in stock.

Oh, for all of you who've purchased this, you can get a 96mb compact flash card for 93 shipped at Amazon.com. Check out Bensbargains for the info.

Can someone tell me or email me where I can get the gateway coupon? At techbargains, they only list a $25 off coupon. Thanks!

FYI, I tried going to Staples last night to see if they would price match Discovery Cameras but I was unsuccessful. I had to wait about 45 minutes while they researched it and then the manager couldn't give me a final answer until this morning because he had to call Discovery Cameras to verify their price and they were closed when he tried calling them last night. Oh well, it didn't hurt to give it a shot.

P.S. I checked Discovery Cameras prices today and their price has gone up $20 to $487.

Letian,

If Gateway's who you bought it from...just buy another, put the bad one in the box the new one comes in, and return it flat-out!

letian,

You would think they would stand behind their products...like ORANGEL said. Hope it works out!

there was 2 pixels that wouldn't go away on my lcd in preview mode, one white and one red so i'm returning it to gateway. just got the rma number and seemed very easy to get an exchange from them and they said they would credit back shippings costs for shipping the camera back to them. i figure most places won't accept returns with upc codes cut out.

unfortunately the sreial number of the camera is on the box. And it matches the serial number on the camera. So I cant really just put the bad camera in a different box. If they find out those 2 SNs dont match, I am not sure what they would do.

Did you tell them the UPC code is cut out, scheck? Because the lady I talked to says they would have took it back if the UPC wasnt cut out. I got a RMA from kodak, CSR said they gonna see if they can repair it or send me a new one.

The burnt/stuck pixels are NOT on the LCD, they are on CCD. Connect the camera to a TV, and you'll see them, too. I am on my second DC4800 from Staples B&M, and it has same problem as the first one, same burnt pixels. The fist camera had only one, whereas the second one has five. Oddly enough, they don't appear on the final picture. The camera probably uses some software processing to eliminate these stuck pixels after a picture is taken. Still, this is a camera defect that's not acceptable. I'll probably go get the third one, but I'm losing my hope to find the one with clean CCD.

Mine was clean 1st try, so don't give up. It is interesting that it appears on the TV too...What is a CCD?

there can either be burnt pixels on the lcd or ccd on the dc4800, just check the forums at dpreview.com. if there are pixels burnt on the ccd they will appear in the final picture, but if you have burnt pixels on the lcd, they will show up when you preview the picture, but they won't show up in the final image. anyways the kodak has this built in function that reduces noise/stray pixels when a certain exposure is used. anyways defects can be expected, but for over 400 bucks theres no way i'm settling for a camera with defects.
