Your best bet would be to buy it from PhotoAlley with the $50 off $500 coupon (exp. 3/5).
Your total
$599
-$100 (rebate)
-$50 (coupon)
=$449!!!

I think a large part of the problem is...buy.com lists the 16mb CF included - others don't. Do they all have it?

All of the retail Kodak DC4800 come with the 16mb CF card. Walmart's site lists only a 10mb CF card, but I think that is a typo as the UPC they also list is the same as on the boxes with the 16mb card, but if anyone is going that way, I'd check for sure as Walmart has had lesser CF cards packed in their boxes on other cameras in the past. I am guessing so that they may sell cheaper.

I just did PhotoAlley with the 15% off mentioned earlier and Ebates = $485 shipped - $100 coupon = $385. And PhotoAlley is first rate.

Also, thanks Martijnos for the feedback on Digital Dog (seems like they live up to their name), I forgot about Resellerratings and could not find them on Bizrate. Good heads up.

Why can't I get the 15% off to work? I go through the link posted, but nowhere does it ever take 15% off.

JumpOnDeals ...

Why urge $50 off when the 15% off deal posted earlier chops about $90 from the price? Both deals end today (3/5), but perhaps PhotoAlley will restore the $100 off $600 they offered recently.

RE: LI versus NIMH batteries

Bill Machrone (PC Mag) just reviewed Olympus' new 3040. One of his only gripes was:

"The only feature of the 3040 that leaves me scratching my head is the use of 3-volt lithium cells instead of 1.5V AA rechargeables. Power consumption in digicams has gotten way better in recent models, but they're still battery hogs. You've got to go to a photo store or a Radio Shack for the 3V cells, and they're pricey compared to AAs."

That's the same reaction we had when we noticed newer digicams coming out with proprietary (and expensive) LI batteries -- especially after just investing in NIMH batteries/chargers. The only advantage we saw was that these digicams often came with AC adapters that re-charged the battery -- worthless when you're your battery dies at the beach, on a mountain, etc.

I went thru the 15% off link for photoalley ...then thru ebates. Worked out like this for me:

$599.95 - DC4800
$ 79.95 - Extra battery and charger
-------
$679.90
$101.99 - 15% discount
$100.00 - kodak rebate
$ 28.90 - ebates(5%)
-------
$449.01 final cost with extra battery and charger

Jeraden...

Don't know what's wrong. Try this:

Once you click on/go to the 15% off link (posted earlier), click on "Click here for your [15% off] discount" -- top of page, or center of page further down. You should then see "Your discount has been applied." NOW start shopping. Once you put anything in your shopping cart, you **should** see a 15% discount applied.

The 15% off ends today (3/5, although PhotoAlley will probably offer other discounts soon).

To me it looks like the easiest and most hassle free route is through ecost.com
Kodak DC4800 from Ecost.

Go through Ebates for another 1% off...
$498.98-1%=493.99-$100 rebate=$393.99 overnight delivered.

Anybody see anything wrong with this?

Got in on the photo alley/ebates deal. Net $384.46. Great deal. Thanks a bunch. Now looking for CF and Batt. Onvia seems to have good price for an OEM replacement battery $41.76 shipped, but out of stock. Are OEM batts ok to use? Can anyone recommend the CF's at newegg? The junior appreciates the help.

well the kodak comes a rechargeable battery and more storage, whereas the nikon does not. the nikon has red-eye problems, and i don't know if they fixed that yet. if you do buy the nikon you will have to pay more for "accessories" which you really need.

UncleBud, yes, its a better camera. And after the rebate its the same price or cheaper. 2.1 megapixel vs 3.3 megapixel with the DC4800. Plus the 4800 has more features and some manual options like Aperture Priority.
