Just got back from Sam's Club. I found the same thing as Facedogg. Both the UPC and serial numbers were coverd with replacement peel off stickers. As stated it comes with a 64 meg compactflash card. Unfortunately I was not able to check out what numbers the original ones were. The price at my local Sams was $469 reduced from $699. BTW if you go to Kodaks website and check out the DC4800 product description you will find a link to register your camera. Part way into the registration Kodak offers you a free $24.95 lens adapter just for registering it.

I had my Kodak 290 stolen in Vancouver recently...no insurance. I stopped at Staples on my way home from work and they pricematched to $468 no problem but when I tried to use my code they said to bring back a printed copy and they will give me another $40 off...can someone please email me a hard copy of that coupon.
Can't wait to use the camera...I really liked my 290 and the two 64mb cards and the charger and extra batteries and the case that someone is using in Vancouver right now...dammit.

just got one from gateway accessory store for 375 after rebate.
it's really great that they don't charge shipping and tax even in california.
to top it off, since i bought it with amex, i guess i might have a pm chance in the near future if it ever gets below 475.
i'm pretty sure sears might be a better deal, but i guess i'm not much a b&m person anymore when it comes to anything electronic.
i hope the rebate will come fast though.

No tax in Michigan and we have a Gateway Country stores. I think I'm gonna wait though. There is still over a month left and it seems that prices are continuing to drop. Decisions, decisions...

Just got back from a Sams. Looks like Sams in Florida don't even
carry the 4800 - just the 3400.

Sears looks like the best deal, but you have to find a manager who will allow you to take the 10% off on top of the price match. Most won't. Plus they all want to add shipping charges from the pricematch store (Abes is 5%). Plus tax. It adds up.

Okay here's the deal with Sam's Club. First off the DC4800 was not located in the same aisle as the other digital and regular cameras. Sam's in Ohio has a new glass display case near the checkout for their higher end phones and video game systems. That's where I found the DC4800. The camera has a 64 meg card and an extra lithium ion battery. I was able to check out the catalog numbers on the box this time. The peel off sticker's # is: 813 7697. The original Cat.# underneath is : 146 5087. BTW I made a mistake on the price, it is $479.

Just got back for my local Sears store(Albany,NY). PM from Abe's $469.99 plus minus 10% for aprox $423 plus aprox $34 sales tax for total less than $457. No manager just the salesman. Showed him web page from Abe's with price & web page of Abe's address. He put it in computer/cash reg. ok'd, I saw his screen, it had a list of many different stores they PM with, with also "other". He had to ask another salesman how to put in for the 10%, it worked. Good luck for anyone else trying this

Has anyone found or verified any batteries that are compatible and last longer yet?

Since the original UPC (146 5087) is covered up, it should be possible to get the rebate on that as long as it is easy to peel off the sticker. All that would be needed would be a COPY of a sales receipt from someone who just purchased the stand alone unit. Can anyone who has purchased a camera from Sam's give a testimony on how easy it is to pull off the sticker?

*EDIT* Just called Sam's and they said that they had two in stock, but the sales rep said it was only 2.(something) megapixels. I wonder if this guy just didn't know what he was talking about...

Serial number is also required for rebate.

As for batteries. Those Li-on batteries from kodak last a long time. You should be able to shoot through 64mb with 1 of them without any problems.

Looking in other forums, I found info on compatible batteries.

Toshiba PDR-BT1, Fuji NP-80, and a Ricoh battery are identical in spec, and all work with the built in charger on the DC4800.

The Toshiba PDR-BT2 is a higher capacity battery (1300mah versus the 1100mah) than the battery supplied, and will provide longer battery life while shooting pictures.

Unfortunately, most places are out of stock on many of these batteries.

I heard there is an AC Delco equivalent that also works, but I don't know the model numbers.

I lucked out and found 2 PDR-BT2's on clearance last week at IGO.com for $20.00 each... They're sold out now..

Edmeister will the PDR-BT2 also work in the built in charger or will I have to buy one seperate?

YO ! sly_630 HAVE U RETURN THE FISH 2 THE TANK YET ? I saw u took madalien's advice

<< "landscape mode and step back a couple of feet and shoot with full optical zoom. LAST idea would be to just pop the little guys out of the tank for a couple of seconds and catch them flipping around on the floor! Just kidding - don't take offense, but it would work. Good shooting >>

So MR. sly_630 have u? If I do not get a answer I am calling NY's ASPCA tommorrow !! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it !!!:|

OK.... I HEARD THAT !!:| Who was the clown that said " sushi " ??:|:|
Those poor fish .Yeah MR. sly_630 I got PM that u r once again have them flipping on the floor now. This time 2 do your battery test !!:Q

BTW please PM me on results of test.

Just a thought here. I saw that the American Express Blue card does price protection w/ online vendors. I read many posts about people buying an item from a vendor w/ free shipping, then finding the exact same item at the absolute lowest cost (using pricewatch, pricescan, etc.) then sending the info to American Express and getting a check for the difference. I checked Amex's site and read all the fine print and it sounds legit, they specifically state what items are not covered and what the per item and per year refund limits are and there is no annual fee. It seems a bit simpler than dealing w/ a manager at a B&M who may be having a bad day. It "almost" sounds too good to be true, what does everybody else think?

Just a thought after 300+ posts.

Is there a "final answer" regarding BM price match? Can I get the dc4800 at Staples? I do not even see it in the Catalog and I keep seeing 'yes they match Abes or Maine (NY ) and others say no way.

I guess I would be more comfortable at a BM, but what would be best B&M price to expect in Portland, OR? I do have the $40 code.

TIA, from DAVER...the Toshiba cable modem deal announcer of January fame!

The higher capacity versions of the DC4800 batteries (ie. BT2) work in the built in charger as well.. I have charged up both my batteries and they both work in the camera charger.

LTB: They do carry it in the Sarasota SAMS. Be careful though, the first one they handed me was a DC3400 with the DC4800 stock number 972336 written on the box with a marker. She did find a real DC4800 after that.

btw- 15 day return policy
