I didn't get to watch the Olympics, so I was wondering what you people think.

Based on my readings, Ohno does seem to have a point.

the korean guy messed up and got caught, that's pretty much it

ohno WAS in the inside track and WAS going to go past the korean guy, and he cut him off which is against the rules, case closed yes?

<< The Koreans took a different view in their letter to the ISU, saying Ohno made a "strange and appealing gesture as if he had been blocked unfairly, improperly and deliberately when he realized he could not overtake Kim." >>

OMG wtf is that? Ohno turned on the boost and Kim cut his @$$ off. Please. Whatever happened to sportsmanship? (Something Kim didn't show when he threw his own countrie's flag on the ground and skated on it)

LOL. Well.. I'll see if Korean sources mention that, but I somehow doubt it.

Oops.. shh.. I better keep my mouth shut. I might get beaten to death. Koreans take these sh*t a bit far too seriously.

I saw the replay and thought Ohno took a page out of the NBA: i.e. flopping reggie miller style to get attention of the referees. I mean, the Korean dude just moved his leg a little in front of Ohno.

I know the korean dude was pissed off, but isn't it an insult to your own country if you throw your flag on the ground?

jooksing, you're missing the point. The problem was not that Ohno and Sung almost touched, but that Sung switched lanes while Ohno was accelerating behind him.

Anyway, I think that Sung is a real idiot for throwing the Korean flag on the ice and running over it with his skates... pretty childish and unsportmanship-like.

I dunno, I think Ohno did indeed to a little acting for the judge, but the overhead shot definitely shows that the Korean cut in to block.
I recall commentator saying that it's like flopping down after taking the charge... even if the charge wasn't that bad, a charge is a charge... impeding is impeding. I didn't see Ohno get all pissy about Bradbury winning even though the Korean hauled him down in the last turn...

When the IOC gives Roy Jones Jr. his gold medal then the South Koreans can try to make there case. Until then they should shut the hell up.

I didn't mean to sound so mean sorry! If I felt there was cause on the DQ then the Koreans should have a right to protest it.

I actually been watching Short Track for few years.

some rules

Intentionally pushing, obstructing or colliding with another racer calls for the offender's disqualification. Improperly crossing the course -- cross-tracking -- is also prohibited.

Skaters also are disqualified for changing lanes or altering their course at the finish. Competitors are required to skate in a straight line from the end of the corner to the finish line. Veering inside or outside to maintain the lead is grounds for disqualification.

I believe Kim Dong-sung took a line that left Apolo Ohno room to take the inside. If he would have stayed on the inside then Apolo would have had to try theoutside pass. Anyone who has been watching Short Track knows Apolo will pass on the inside. when apolo took the oppertunity to pass Kim could not cross track to cut him off. Apolo clearly had more speed.

Another rule

Lead skater has the right of way and the passing skater must avoid body contact.

This is the reason why apolo had to stand up and slow down. If Kim had not been DQed and Apolo had run into him Apolo could have been DQed.

The Korean guy was robbed, the American made a drama, when in fact the Korean was holding the same line he had on every lap, plus he had the right to be where he liked as he was in the lead. The American knew he couldn't get past, so he drew attention to a minor thing, in order to get the judges eye. As for suing, that is pathetic, you win some, you lose some!! Hey ho!!

based on what? i saw the replays from different angles and its obvious he wasn't in the same "track". i taped the race and replays so i think i know what i'm talking about. unless your going to question the accuracy of video

I read some very interesting articles while browsing through the top Korean media sites.

I am quite convinced that Ohno deserved the gold but I won't make any final conclusions until I watch the footage myself.

My dad is furious about this over in Seoul.. He's taking this political too.

I'm sorry, but the Korean guy broke the rules and deserved exactly what he got. I've been getting really pissed off watching them cause pileups in all the races, so it's fitting that it finally cost them a gold. I about blew a gasket in the relay heat where the korean skater takes out almost the whole field, has the prescence of mind to tag his teammate and then pulls the "o my god, I'm mortally wounded" routine to get the race stopped once he saw they were out of the running. Released from hospital within an hour or so......:|

PS- I was a competitive short-tracker growing up in MI, so I am familiar with the rules and why they exist. Ohno may have pulled a little soccer-acting, but the korean guy did indeed block him.

IMO the Korean was definitely cross-tracking and the judges caught it. He's just mad that he was the only one that was caught cross-tracking, since it's hard to catch without instant replay and isn't penalized often because of that fact.

Too bad, maybe he should have skated fairly and then he woundn't have to worry about being ejected. He did it because he knew Apollo Anton Ohno was going to beat him if he passed and he thought he could get away with a little cross-track, and since Apollo made it clear his lane had been infringed upon, the Korean feels cheated. Too bad!!!

Not to mention the fact that the Korean cost Ohno the gold in the first race, and it wouldn't surprise me if he took him down when he knew he was going to take the gold. Childish Korean, he makes his people look like the biggest sore losers on earth. I hope most Korean's sportsmanship is not like that jerks.

Well, I heard South Korea might withdraw it's team from the Olympics if action is not taken.

Guess that'll hurt their chances of getting to host the 2010 Winter Olympics and improve Vancouver's chances.

"shame on you.. america..

Get a grip. What did America do in this? Really, please explain. I want an itemized list of actions that america took that caused this latest contraversy. The referee was an australian, so there's no bias argument.

The only parties that should be ashamed are the one's still supporting that crybaby korean who cheated and got caught. Threw his flag down on the ice and was kicking the cones off the ice too, made a fool of himself and his country in front of an international audience.
