Got one of the Blue for 49.95 but it won't play any of the VCD movies I have....When I insert movie disks burned from downloads, it has this funky dark grey split horizontal screen, when I play something I created, it skips and has a lot of pixel problems. Am I doing something wrong?

Do those VCD disks work in any other DVD players?

I saw those players in ad for next week too. How can they be clearanced for $69 and be in ad for $85? Weird.

I just went to the target in Cicero, IL (Chicago Area) and they had a sh|tload of the ugly purple ones for $69. I'm talking a LOT... like they were all stacked and nearly filled up a whole shelf. I had seen this thread (title) earlier and thought about buying one, but I wasn't sure whether that was the one that was in this thread... I think I'll go buy one tomorrow though, since our TV sucks and we need a Macrovision-free DVD player to watch DVD's

Cheetoden,

I've watched the movies and my home made video on both a PC drive and a cheap APEX $75 player I bought at Walmart with no problems. For the money, this may not be an issue, but still would like to get an idea if I have a defective player...

Target in Alabama had silver ones for $99 and "purple" ones for $85 but these were out of stock. Two of the CSRs told me the clearance items are located on the end of the aisles (NOT along with the other DVDs but in a special clearance section) and there were none there so... out of luck, I passed.
These things look real nice tho

so i decided to visit my nearby Target (Baldwin Park, socal) today since last weeks sale on this is over and maybe they'll clearance the ugly purples one to my surprise i saw a BLUE just sitting there. I scanned it to see what price it came up and the self check machine came up zero dollars. There was a clearance sticker on it for $85 but i scratched that off . . . took it to the cash register and bought it for zero dollars

No i'm just kidding . . . I told the sales girl that my friend bought a BLUE one on clearance for 49.99 so she just rang it up for 49.99 although i did have to make a second trip back because i was so happy i didn't even check everything was there and it was missing the A/C adapter

I've tried playing vcds but it wont play . . . trying to read up on this firmware upgrade or something . . . i'm new to these hacks/unlocks If anyones got a simple link to a site that simplifies the process would nice

thanks AT

I also got this koss compact dvd, its the dark pink with wild flower type design, they were in the clearance isle marked $69.98, but I found one that had a clearance red sticker that said was 29.98, now 20.98. Someone must have stuck all those clearance phone price on this one. Now you may say, I put it on, I am not willing to risk going to jail for saving dimes and nickels, with all the security cameras and private plane clothes security.
So, I took it to the cashier, but I wanted to take to cashier who might not know about a lot of electronic stuff. So, I spotted an old lady cashier, she scans it, and it rings up $69.98, but I tell her, look at the clearance price sticker. She calls for the supervisor, so I thought hell, this deal just fell apart. The supervisor looks like he is busy with other stuff, so he says to cashier, is that clearance item, the cashier says yes.
So at this point he tells her scan item, overide price to the clearance sticker price which is $20.98.
I also bought the bicycle magan oasis for $34.98 and a free coke with cupon.
the total is $34.98+$20.98+.02 deposit coke+$4.34 tax===$60.32
I walked out feeling great.

The koss does play svcd, vcd, dvd, cdrw. I haven't done the macrovison and region hack yet, but I already got a daewoo 5700 hacked for that.
sorry for my english grammer structures, not to good at letter composition.

good luck, and thanks for all the info.

Saw them today. They were $99 none on clearance. Nice & small. Not worth more than $50 in my opinion.

Going to take a look @ another Target tomorrow. Hopefully they'll have a better deal.

Rumor from the Yahoo group has it that the SILVER one will be on discount for 85 bucks in the week of 27th of OCT. I have no idea if this is real or not, but worth a LOOK I guess since I imagine a good portion of US here in the thread check out Target 4-5 times a week anyway.

It was very frustrating for me today @ Target. I went to a target that's 1.5 hours away (just happen to be there because of I was w/ my gf shopping) and I saw like 10 of those purple ones w/ square on them. They are STILL 69.98.

FOUND a BLUE ONE and thought..SCORE!!! Scanned it and turn up to be 69.98 also. VERY FRUSTRATED. But what I did is that I copied down their UPC number so that I can just call next time to see if they get marked down to 49.98. Here are the UPC to share w/ y'all (if you don't have them already)

BLUE - 7 36614 00372 3
Purple w/ Square - 7 36614 00374 7

good luck y'all.

And that will be scooped up before you get there by the employee you talked to.

"And that will be scooped up before you get there by the employee you talked to."
$49.98 is the range that an average target emp can afford also...
i don't understand why people call, then come in here and complain about not getting the deal. it's like strapping a really pointy hat on one's head

well, I can totally understand you point of view, however, if you closest Target is like 1.5 hours away, will YOU go over there every weekend JUST TO CHECK OUT THE PRICE OF THE PLAYER?? More power to you if you do, but I can assure you that most people w/ their right mind won't do that. Think of all the gas $$ that you will spent. LOL.

If I have a local Target that actually has the stuff on clearance, of course I will go check instead of calling.

I bought a purple one for $69.98, and the de-macrovision hack didn't work for me I got an "ERASE FAIL" message. Looks like a few other people on the Yahoo group got the same thing. Looks like I just got really un-lucky and chanced to get one with a different firmware chip I've already packed it back up and will be returning it this weekend. I'm not sure whether I should get another one...

Think of all the gas $$ that you will spent.

Think of the nice Target employee who now has the player you were planning to buy.

Oops! No soup for you.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't concentrate my efforts on this deal. I have a staples store 90 miles from my house, but I don't even bother running to it on the chance that I'd get in on a hot deal.

Also, if you're 90 miles away, that's 180 mile round trip. Now gas is about $1.50/gallon and you'l burn up 6 gallons of gas to go get it at $50 instead of $70. $1.50 X 6= $9. Not even figuring on the wear and tear on the car. You saved $10 if you get the deal at $50 instead of picking it up at $70.

I see a lot of people complaining about Target clearance deals not being offered in their local stores. The thing you have to live with is that Target clearance deals are *always* YMMV (your mileage may vary)!

Clearance prices vary from store to store, even within the same city. When I would hunt for deals at the Targets in Fort Worth, TX, I would find an item clearanced in one store and not clearanced at another. It often varies also on what type of Target store it is... Super Target or regular Target?

There is a whole page dedicated to listing Target clearance items over on aliendeals.com. Print out the page, and then go around the store looking at all the endcaps where Target places their clearance items. The GBA NHL 2002 game for $5.04 is what I'll be looking for next time I go in.

Also, Target has schedules for markdowns in each department. From aliendeals:

MARKDOWN SCHEDULE:
Monday--kids clothing and electronics (I think food also)
Tuesday--women's clothing and domestics (maybe food too)
Wednesday--men's clothing, toys, health and beauty
Thursday--lingerie, shoes, house wares, sporting goods
Friday--cosmetics, hardware, auto and jewelry

Again, YMMV!

If you want non-electronic deals from Target, mycoupons.com also has some good posts about Target deals.

Learn how to read the Target clearance stickers... Final clearance prices usually end in a certain number, like 4. Clearance prices are marked with red stickers, and the percent off is listed as a small number in the upper right corner of the sticker. Target usually does staged clearances, going from 30% off to 50% off to 75% off over the space of a few weeks. The real deals are the ones that get down to 75% off!

Good luck!

"LOL, I think it is my right to call in and check price. as a matter of fact, I am calling today to check price."
