I haven't had any problems at all. She probably got a bum one. I'd *definately* have her exchange it.

Yeah, I know...I wish I had found out a little sooner. Sorry about that!

Hey, NP.. I was able to get it at the sale price. Thanks for the heads up! I see what you mean about it feeling similar to an apex player though. I played a few svcd's on it so far. It's been perfect. No off-syncs and no FF or RW problems. I haven't tried my svcd with menu structure yet though but I'm pretty sure it should do OK. This thing is MUCH better than my Lasonic DVD-8090. It's smaller (The lasonic player was supposed to be portable) and it has component and optical outs.

SSGti, I have an extra 12v DC car adapter laying around from the lasonic player. I'll try it out when I get a chance.

This is a much more "portable" unit than the Lasonic player. It even comes with a headphone jack w/ volume knob!

it should work with your car adapter, the bottom of the player says <10W, so it should be less than an amp, and your car can handle that I am pretty sure.

BTW, it played the 2 DVDs I tried very well (one was The Matrix), and a couple VCDs as well. No skips or anything. And I think KOSS has been owned by Omitron (or whatever) for a while now, not just recently. I seem to remember seeing that name on the back of one of the other KOSS thing I had (a while back).

IAHK, thanks man.

I was also considering the Lasonic one before I saw this. Is the car adapter on the Lasonic a regular 12v adapter with a plug at the end ? or does it have a external regular ?

Hawk, but isn't a car batter rated usually at 50-60 amps ??. The adapter the unit comes with supplies 1 amp. So I'm assuming that my car adapter also needs something to step down the 50-60amps to 1amp ??

For those who bought it, how do you feel about the quality of it so far? Do you think $120 is worth it? Thanks.

You don't have to step down the amps. You supply the rated voltage (12 VOLTS) to the device, and it will draw the current (AMPS) that it needs. You can guess the max current draw by the rated output current on the AC wall wart that comes with it - I'd guess less than 1 Amp at 12V. The DC cable that you use to supply power to the device may have a fuse in the lighter socket plug. You could replace this fuse with one that matches the rated output current on the wall wart, to provide some safety if the device ever shorts out, etc. Radio Shack sells a nice adapter for about $6.99.

Quality is good. I just ran across an SVCD problem. One of the svcd's my friend gave me (he probably downloaded it) didn't work. It worked in my Lasonic player though. After some investigation, I found out that it was missing the Segment folder. So it seems this Koss player is really strict on playing standard SVCD's. No biggy for me since I do most of my own SVCD stuff.

It's worth the $120 if you want a really small dvd player with impressive features. But at the $99 that was originally posted, it's was HOT.

I got it because I love having small gadgets. It's really up to you to make the call.

Im not sure of the rest of the country, but in SoCal it is marked to $99.00. I asked a person there and they said that the price ($99.00 <- not $99.99) means that it is something theyre clearing out. So if you want one the snag it quick.

Same here in Bay Area. Grab one myself. Will see how does it do.

Thanks for the info, emonkey.

I got a gamevue as well, the color is kinda of too bright (from backlight) though. For $50, I think I can live with it.

The combination is pretty good although I don't know how will they do on the road. (The AC converters are both huge in my case) and I don't think KOSS has anti-skip function.

There are 2 problems I have right now:
1. The Koss remote control does not work anymore. I need to use the Sampo remote control
2. It does not playe Jpeg files and other raw pc files.

Hmm, well that doesn't help me.

Interesting though.

Anyone try playing a regular audio cd in this dvd player?
Woah does it spin loudly! I'm sitting about 15ft away from the thing and have my stereo up pretty good and the thing is still very noticably noisily spinning.

The noise level that comes out of it while playing dvd's is tolerable, but it is pretty ridiculously loud with a cd.

Anyone whose tried a mp3 cd, how's the spin noise there? Comparable to a dvd's noise or to an audio cd's noise?

fengpc's post has a pic of it. Target doesn't keep this player with the other dvd players in the store. It's on an endcap along with other hiphues items in the electronics department. The endcap has cordless telephones, cd players, cameras, and boom boxes. All from various manufacturers.. V-Tech, Audiovox, Vivitar, and Memorex I believe. It's pretty colorful, you can't miss it.

BTW, the regular price of $99.00 now doesn't mean it is discontinued.. I just did a scan of it at work today and it's still an active item.

Yea, it's pretty loud for me too. But it's mostly because I sit less than 10 feet away from it. If I turn up my little HTS up to a decent volume though, I can't hear it.

But 15 feet with stereo on high and it's still noisy? I don't know.

I'm playing an MP3 disc in it right now.. just as loud I guess. Maybe less noisy than an audio cd.

I have mine hooked up to my receiver via an Optical Cable. Everything but audio CD's play ok. I notice that between tracks it seems to drop the digital output (the red light goes out) for a few seconds, so it ends up cutting off the first few seconds of each song.

now that ive seen a pic, that player is butt-ugly. i guess its redeeming factor is its size and being hackable

does anyone remember the older sony minidvd player? it usedto sell for $699 then it got dropped to like $299 at goodguys for liquidation. that thing looked sweet cuz it was aluminum. it was similar in style to that koss, but much skinnier and classier. too bad they didnt keep the same style, cuz the new sony minidvd is butt-ugly too
