As bad as it is, I would buy another one for $21.

Got one almost a year ago, an old hot deal, $35 shipped from Target. Very short battery life with mp3s (so use 2 AA NiMh rechargeables). The worst feature would be the occasional and unexpected loud or soft electronic nails-on-chalkboard screech with mp3s. It sometimes skips a bit on mp3s even when sitting on a desktop. Audio cd's seem to play fine. If you want an AC adapter (4.5V), you need to find or make something that delivers plenty of current (1A@5V was not enough). The headphones are nothing special.

Actually does lower bitrates ok, at 16khz and up, and can fast forward through mp3 tracks. Good for long spoken word, or old time radio mp3s. Won't do ultra Lo-Fi 11khz material.

I checked at a bunch of Targets. 2 in Pasadena, 2 Culver City. They seem to have flown off the shelves already. I found the last one in Culver City that fell behind some boomboxes.

Yup, it's a nice lil commute. All those targets weren't a loss though, I got a chance to use the free coke coupons at each one. I just tried out the player for a few minutes. I did notice some odd crackling for a few seconds in one track but that seemed to have gone away. I guess a lot of mp3 cd players are very sensitive to errors in the tracks. Also another curious thing is the spatialization/volume changes in some tracks. These oddities aren't very annoy but if you're picky then I guess you'd want to consider a more expensive player. I agree with Replay.

I've never noticed anything too bad about the target on Jefferson/Sepulveda. The area isn't the greatest but it could be worse. I find it funny that there is a Compusa and Big Lots next to each other.

The Culver City Target (the one by Staples) has to be the worst Target store I've ever gone to. The clearance items are always few and far between. The only clearancing going on there is theft in the parking lot (a co-worker had her car stolen right in the first row of the parking lot during the day last Friday). Of course that area is not exactly a thriving economic mecca, with the Fox "Kills" mall just up the street. Plenty of traffic all around there during "working" hours...the unemployment rate must be staggering for that area East of the 405.

From Pasadena to Culver City...you must have a commute just like me! Gotta love LA Traffic!
