KoToR and Vista 32bit

Hello All,

So I recently repurchased KoToR 1 because I liked it the first go around and I wanted to revisit it since I heard of the new MMO coming out.

Well I have tried almost everything I can think of to get this game to work but with no success. I tried running it in XP SP2 compatibility mode right from install, replace the mss32 file (cause I heard it worked for KoToR2), and all these other tricks and tips but to no avail. So I was wondering if any one had some success getting it to work? If you did what did you do?

I did nothing for it to work. I'm on Vista64 and it works perfect for me. Are you sure you're running the latest updates for it and latest drivers for everything in your system?

Yep...i got the game in the best of star wars pack. When I tried to install the 1.03 patch the game stopped working. It said I had the wrong CD.

I might install it on my laptop since you said it is working fine on Vista 64 bit. Maybe that might work. I am not sure but it is worth a try.

Yep works fine on m Vista x64, have you installed latest DX9.0C from here .

KOTOR 2 had an issue with MS32.DLL (not needed for KOTOR),simple fix for that is here

I have both working fine on Vista x64.

It worked fine for me in Vista 32. At some point I started getting a false "cd emulation software running" error from the copy protection but the patch from SecurROM fixed that.

what i had to do for mine, vista x64/win7 x64 was to set processor affinity to just 1 processor/core. it wouldnt work for me with duals or quads. theres a program called imagecfg.exe that changes the affiinity of a program automatically so you dont have to keep setting it manually. just google it. comes with instructions.

I worked fine for me on Vista 32 with dual processors. Just my $.02...

Yep same here,no issues running with dual core.

Worked fine on my Vista 32. I did always run as admin though.

Works fine for me Win7 x64 here. I did add a line to run in Windowed Mode, but that was it.

For what ever reason I cannot get it to work on my desktop but I got it running on my laptop. It was weird though as I had to crank up all the settings in order for it to stop skipping. Oh well now to make a evil Revan.

I wish all games would run in windowed mode, without borders. I can't get Counter Strike Source to. Sucks.

I havent tried to play for a while on Vista (32bit). However, when I did try a year or so ago, I had problems with the game freezing up. I got around this by disabling the movies, but it kind of took something away from the game.

I was running an E4500 and an ATI HD2600 pro at the time. I think there was some issues with the ATI drivers, as the game totally stopped working with one of the driver updates and I had to roll back the driver and disable movies.

BTW, this is one of my favorite games. I was kind of disappointed that a new comp with a dual core and better graphics card had problems when my old single core Athlon with a Radeon 9600 would run the game very well.

KotoR worked fine on my Vista 32 laptop but wouldn't run on my XP desktop.
KotoR 2 wouldn't work on my Vista 32 laptop or my XP desktop, but did work on my old XP laptop.

If it doesn't work, then just keep trying other computers until you find one which it will work on. :/
