Hey guys I ran across his video tonight and was wondering if anybody has encountered this issue with the latest whql adrenaline driver? I have an AIB 6900 XT and run it but haven't seen anything weird apart from the normal stuff like the card randomly drops signal to my 2nd UW monitor. He's got over 50 cards as of his video and all died running the new driver irrespective of their individual use cases which were all different.

I tested this against my 6800XT since I now have a 7900XT. Installed driver 23.1.1 which is no different from 22.12.2 in that both are 7900XT/X series drivers. Then cloned my OS SSD using a Sabrent USB-C external m.2 enclosure to another m.2 SSD. Plopped that into my spare rig with 6800XT installed. Windows recognized new device, booted... and nothing. I need to install an appropriate driver in order to actually utilize the 6800XT as it is not a recognized device on a 7900XT only driver.
Then it’s puzzling, puzzling and makes this video more than questionable and also puzzling why people like Fabio said they tried the driver and it ran “more or less without issues” on 6000 series.

What kind of PPD do you get with it?

Average around 3M PPD @ 160-170W power usage. I get clocks around 2100MHz with 950mV if I cap the max frequency. If I increase power limit and frequency I can hit 2700MHz+, but obviously efficiency is much worse since it then requires 1150mV.

nVidia cards are straight up better at Folding@Home.

Not bad. My 1060 only gets around 600k @ about 100W. So those are impressive numbers compared to older cards.

So, power washed mining cards or stored under extremely high humidity.
Since they are super clean, someone must have washed them at the very least. Then sold them off without drying them properly?

Also, when washing off PBC shouldn't the water be pure or you are just making more trouble.

Can't see why these warehouse miners wouldn't be more careful. I know the cards have all probably paid themselves, but what advantage does pressure washing bring? Even if afterwards they rinse in distilled water and dry everything, fan motors probably don't care for water either.

Maybe they just don't care, once they have been paid, or simple stupidity?

tl;dw
1) Driver did not show any changes in voltage or power behavior and was eliminated as a possible reason. It CANNOT be the reason.
2) He followed up with customers and found out from those who responded they were all bought second-hand around the same timeframe and due to failure modality speculates these were ex-miner cards that were either operated, stored, or cleaned improperly in high humidity environment, leading to the observed cracking

Conclusions:
Not AMD's fault.
Driver version was a red-herring. It's simply a result of the timing of when the cards were sold (early December) and of course the first thing a customer does after installing the card is installing the latest driver.
Most likely used and abused ex-miner cards.

Hey, that's HALF the fun of forums!
You and I evidently have different definitions of fun.

This douche had no business (bad choice of words. Biz is why he did it) making a clickbait video before he had completed his investigation. His channel started taking off after Roman gave him a plug. Since then he has picked up most of his subs and total views. Jay has well over 3 million subs and picked up this clickbait. That provided another push. "HURR DURR it's a boring repair video, don't be silly. He'll make a couple of dollars HURR DURR." Louis Rossmann started off doing boring repair videos. Channels like TronicsFix are killing it too

The trick to Youtube early on, isn't the money they pay you. It's getting their algorithm to promote you, and pick up subs and advertisers. Going viral is even better. Of course, the meat&potatoes at this stage, is getting to promote your actual services while getting paid for it. Instead of being the one paying for the advertising. And you still would not have had the reach with the demographic you are targeting, that these videos provide. Doesn't matter that many are not in a region to do biz with you. That part is an investment in the future of your channel. I surmise that as the channel grows, so will his production values. Or, he may be content to settle for the occasional push to help his repair biz thrive. The salient point being, and I say this as someone that ran a successful biz for decades, all of this will only help his biz. It was a savvy move. But also ethically bankrupt.

The bright side is, we all got to learn something from this thread.
LOL you are a glass is half full kind of guy. What I witnessed was an opportunistic small biz owner, unintentionally perhaps, dispense 1000s of liters of Haterade to thirsty Nvidia and Intel promoters and leg humpers. Spawning yet another AMD smear campaign, to further undermine confidence in their products. Hell, there was a call for a class action lawsuit in here! LULZ! Poe's Law I hope.

When Der8auer did the video on the 7900XTX coolers he mentioned several times that he didn't want to say that AMD had a major problem, but wanted to investigate more to see if he could figure out what was going on. And to me that was the right way to go about something like this. This guy, on the other hand, did exactly the opposite. I stopped watching other tech YouTuber for doing similar things. So I have zero intentions of watching any of his other videos now. Not that he cares.

Poor guy wanted his 5 minutes of fame. I don't blame him. It's not like he helped sell 100,000 more Nvidia cards

AMD has some clear advantages over Nvidia (price, more VRAM and great Adrenaline control panel for OC and UV) and those who value these aren't going to be swayed by Nvidia.

Always keep stupidity front and center. "Never ascribe to malice what can be explained by stupidity" and all that. Far more stupid actions than those out of spite.

I give laziness the spot behind stupidity, personally
A lethal combo. However, smart and lazy is another matter. As Bill Gates once observed - "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it."

Nonsense. AMD market share has shrunk, while Nvidia's grew. Stop trying to spin this.

Nvidia has had their own serious problems yet their 4090 fat potatoes are selling out. Something is very wrong with the masses and AMD can't fix that at a fundamental level. But they better start doing some clever marketing and deals with the game studios to keep themselves relevant. I would hate to live in an Nvidia only world.
