<< Just make sure you have a recent kernel, they detect if there's the VIA problems and work around it. I would avoid them though, VIA makes really poor chipsets and people buying them only encourages them.

For server, making sure that right IDE drivers are compiled into kernel should be enough. Chipset fixes are nice but they existed in older kernel also (mostly). I have a couple of machines running as small linux-based servers/workstations with KT133A chipset and so far I have nothing to complain. In fact, I have had more troubles with AMD 761 hybrid chipset in my home box. Don't buy newer SiS or ALi chipset-based mobo, those haven't proper drivers for linux...
