I am using an Epox 8KHA+. What is happening is that I used to run my computer caseless therefore quite a lot of dust builded up and stuffs. Now the chipset fan is making some whining noise at times which is rather irritating. Now I have took off and cleaned the fan. I tried running the computer without the chipset fan and the heatsink still seem to be only warm. I am wondering if I can leave the computer running without the chipset fan at all.

i dont know much about kt266a boards, but i would say that if there are other kt266a mobos without chipset coolers (only heatsinks), then its probably ok to unplug your fan. i did it on my a7v133 (kt133a) and i've had no problems....

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VXE mobo which has only a heatsink on the KT266A chipset and it seems to be fine.

I'm sure it'll be alright if you don't use the fan on the KT266A chipset.

normal use wont matter, but overclocking is necessary

just get one of those generic el cheapo socket seven coolers and stick it on with AS Epoxy

Just turning off the fan will cause problems. You'll need to at the very least remove the fan. Bear in mind tho that the heatsink you'll be left with afterwards could be a smaller area than a typical KT133 HS, depending on the KT266 HSF design that you have fitted. If you can put on a bigger heatsink without it fouling anything, that would be the safest thing to do.

I got it guys. Thanks.

I placed a slow and quiet 80mm fan on top of the video card edge that blows right onto the fanless chipset heatsink. System seem to be rather stable
