The KT333 is a pretty good chipset. It is faster than the NForce1. If you are buying new. You might as well get a KT400 board since the prices will be about the same.

(specially with the nforce 2 out)

despite popular (only with idiots) belief, the KT266A and up are all good chipsets.. even the KT133A is a good chipset.

chipsets that suck by VIA: KT133, KT266, Apollo 133

anything like the KT133A, KT266A, KT333 are all good. KT400 is questionable still.. but the others are good. I have a KT266A and couldn't be happier with performance and stability. I'd for SURE get the KT333 over the NForce1.

Errrr well no I wouldn't say only with idiots, it's a matter of opinion.
and I had far LESS problems with my KT133 chipset than my KT133A (total piece of shit)
The question is moot - KT333 vs an nforce2 = not a chance in hell - via is slower and less reliable.

Via have earned their bad name and they can keep it.

I would venture to say a bridge.

KT333 is at the top of the list for the Athlon XP, probably the most stable and compatible chipset for the Athlon VIA has ever put out. I use it and have not once had a problem with a variety of different add-on cards. I'd go KT333 over N-Force 1 any day. If your going to use a VIA chipset, I would not go with any manufacture other than MSI, every time I buy VIA based boards other than MSI I run into problems of some sort, Epox, Gigabyte and A-Open being the only other VIA based boards I've had.

AbRASiON has clearly had troubles with VIA chipsets and is replying out of anger so I would just ingnore him. The KT333 is a completely trustable chipset.

Except the Nforce 2 is faster, and you are no logner supporting a company which didn't handle the KT133 / 133a thing with style at all

I don't recall seeing a discussion about nForce 2 at all. redly1 is asking about the KT333 & nForce 1 from what I gather in the original post. Via has done a fine job of improving upon past chipsets, and continues to improve the 4-in-1 drivers as well. The KT333 is a stable platform, and seems to perform very well.

I hear those are decent, EPox 8KHA+(KT266a) had to be the worst motherboard I've ever owned though. I had to do an RMA with EPox 3 times, guess it was just bad luck.

Hey, I'm still kicking with me Iwill KK266-R and its a KT133a. I haven't had any problems.

I think my next upgrade will be a Nforce2 board though.

Wow, I have had about 4 Epox boards and none gave me a problem. Top stability and performance. My current 8KHA+ works like a dream. You must have definitely got a bad batch of boards.

Mine will be a GB based solution.

Why do you keep going on about the nForce2 when the originator of this thread asked about the nForce1?

Edit to add: Doh! I forgot to answer the question posed to us. There are no downfalls to the KT333 chipset. I am happily using the Epox 8K3A+ in my home computer and I love it. Fast, stable, and upgradeable (for me). I'm looking for Barton and some PC3200 in the near future.

I was referring to one person.
and yeah, I actually have a KT133 board at work. Asus A7Pro that runs absolutely fine... no problems, perfect stability.
I agree the KT333 is slower than the NForce2 but the reliability thing I think is disputable.

Maybe. I myself wouldn't be adverse to installing an nForce2 board if I can find one with 2 onboard IDE RAID channels.

I've used lots of VIA chipsets, the latest is a KT266A, and I'd say they're ok chipsets.
There's no doubt Intel chipsets are better in my mind, but on the other hand VIA's chipsets aren't nearly as bad as some people say.

The next time I upgrade, if I go AMD, I'll most likely go nForce2 though, people seem to be happy with the nForce1, and besides it's fun to try new things
