KT7, K7T pro 2a, and A7V...tried them all and A7V didn't work out...

I have built 3 systems using the 3 mobos listed and the A7V is the only one that I had problems with. I am using a T-Bird 1gig and running it at 1 gig, Voodoo5 5500, SB Live! Plat, Kingmax pc150 ram, and Maxtor 40 gig hard drive. I used the same periferals on each system and the Abit and MSI boards worked flawlessly in all applications, but the ASUS board locked up in everything. I tried all the current drivers, bios, and some older ones, yet I could not get the A7V to work. I'm not saying the ASUS board sux b/c I know many are using it with no probs; however, I like a board that will work with little or no problems and this one dudn't. I reformatted my HD and installed WIn98 SE fresh on all systems and the A7V was the only one that didn't want to cooperate. I'm taking it back tomorrow and hope to get one of the new kt133A mobos. If not, I guess, I'll get another Kt7.

Any comments out there as to why I might have had so many probs with the asus board and not the other 2?

Ok are saying you tryed to install os and didnt want to install ?
on the A7V ok first the A7V is abit tricky to install OS, ok heres some things you should do(note the bios on the board will not detectyour DD on ATA100 or scsi cause the bios will detect normal stuff like ata66,flopy drive..... you know normal stuff you might need to patch up the board use 4IN1 and a ATA100 controler on www.asus.com.tw.

1) To install a OS on that board you need have the IDE CABLE on the ata66 not the ata 100 the OS will not install on ata100 and if you plan to install win2000pro it will just not work on ata100.

2) Ok after installing winxx on ata66 you can switch it to the ata100
and i hope you are putting win98se cause win mill might not work ether on ata100.

But your ata100 will work fine if lets say you add a DD or other device but your OS will always have to be install on the ata664IN1 AND ATA100 controlerheres the link

Techmec and Magnumpi,

I have had similar problems with the A7V Ver. 1.02. It was difficult getting it to work with V7700, SB Live, Netgear NIC, and Conexant Modem while using the Promise ATA 100 at the same time.
However, you can build on the ATA 100 if you make a floppy disk with the Promise drivers, and then hit F6 during the building process and load the drivers. Also, I have had no problems loading 98SE or WinME on the ATA 100.

Did you try BIOS 1005? 1004 had issues.... I own the A7V133 now but I also had the A7V, both worked fine for me... the A7V did have problems when I used BIOS 1004 tho.

BTW this is about the most stable setup....

PCI1-Empty (Or Video Card if you dont have an AGP card)
PCI2-Empty
PCI3-Sound Card
PCI4-NIC
PCI5-Modem (For me since I dont have broadband)

Thanks for the info guys, but I decided to take it back and just get an MSI board. Its cheap and I have used one b4 and will just use it until the KT133A boards come out.

I own a KT7A-Raid nothing but smiles here! I have a mild overclock, so I may not be pushing it as much as some would want to, but it seems to be perfect for me. Plugged everything in all cards all drives, fired it up.. and absolutely no problems at all..
