KT7-Raid BIOS Reboot?

When I save new settings in my the BIOS, it won't re-boot. I have to shut the thing down by turning the power supply off. If I try to power down using the switch, it accesses the A: drive (LS-120)and the hard drive light comes on, but it stays there and won't boot up. Also, my monitor goes into sleep mode at this time.

Any idea why this is the case? It also happens when I try to re-set after errors in Win98SE. (I'm having a problem with a Visioneer USB scannner).

Could ACPI be the problem here? It seems to re-boot fine if I shut down properly. One more thing, how can I disable the OS from shutting the power off automatically? This is also related to ACPI isn't it?

Sorry for the long post...I just assembled the thing over the weekend.

I have a similar problem with my MSI BX Master Motherboard and Celeron II @ 850 Mhz, running WinME, except i can't soft re-boot at all, reset switch, selecting restart from start button shut down menue or when exiting bios, the monitor goes blank and indicates s no video state, all of the drive lights and on LED stay on, I have to hold the start button down for 4 seconds, the power shuts off. Starting by pressing the start button id fine and the machine boots up with no problem, boy I'm pulling my hair out over this one. Ron Radarman

I've been thinking about this problem, I'm running a MSI BX Master
motherboard Celeron II 566 @ 850 Mhz. Using WinME, You are using an Abit KT7, I think is an Abit, maybe your card is AN MSI as well, I keep getting the numbers mixed up. I don't believe you mentioned what OS you are using. I know its a motherboard for an Athlon/Duron board, it must be something in our bios setup, I think you motherboard uses Award Biosas my MSI does, it sure is a pain in the ---, though. It will be nice when some one comes up with some useful tips. Radarman

Radarman, I have an Abit KT7-Raid running Win98SE. I am hoping this is related to the ACPI and Advanced Power Management in the OS. Unfortunately, my scanner problem has caused a Windows Protection Error and I can't even boot into Windows until I get that fixed, so I won't be working on this problem for at least a day.

Radarman,

most atx board bioses have an option to change the power switch type; I think the option is
soft-off or instant. If set to soft-off, you are required to hold the power switch in for four seconds. At least, that's the way my KT7-RAID is set up. I switched mine to instant-off so that the machine powers down as soon as I hit the switch.

It seems odd that with two different Motherboards and processors the problem is almost identical. I am noe real savvy on how to set up the
ACPI so I have it turned off in bios, and in the WinME I have the power set to on all the time. I have th monitor to go to sleep after 30 minutes. The only simularity in our systems is that they both use Award bios, Hummmm,. also I am overclocking my processor, Sky Diver are you also overclocking your Processor ?? I need some one who is running a MSI BX Master motherboard and Celeron II 566 @ 850 Mhz, and not having any problems to ge a hold of me, so I can compare settings. (Radarman) radar5@lvdi.net

Radarman: I am not overclocking (yet).
Jakinney: Are you having any problems with your KT7-R not firing up after saving BIOS? Or not firing up after re-setting?

I know that I still have the same BIOS as was installed--haven't verified the version yet.
