System:
KT7 w Tbird 1200/266 at stock voltage 36c temps
ASUS GForce V 6800
Maxtor 13g 7200 rpm HD
SB Live card
512k Micron PC 133
Generic ethertet card running 512k cable
Sparkle 350w ps
The problem:
Experiencing black screens and reboots with no warning. The damn thing reboots whenever if feels like it. At times the desktop resolution changes to the point that only half of the desktop appears on monitor. Hitting reset puts me back to normal with the exception that all my icons on desktop change positions and the autohide on the task bar reset to default. I have done everything I can think of; purchased and changed video cards to GForce II, removed all cards except AGP, reformatted twice, changed ram with another puter, unplugged everything and started over. One thing I noticed is that if If I run scan disk after the crash it shows errors on the drive. If I run scan disk ten minutes later the errors reappear. I have ordered an IBM ultrastar 10000 rpm HD and hope this fixes the problem. Many people point to the ps as the culprit but I find that hard to swallow beings it is a new Sparkle. I have experimented with numerous BIOS settings as well with no help.
