KT7A Abit Motherboard CPU upgrade

I have the above mentioned motherboard with a 900mhz duron, in my motherboard manual it says it can handle athlon/duron cpus from 500mhz and up. This seems alittle odd to me, I cant imagine this board could handle a 2ghz athlon. It is a slot A board, can anyone tell me what I could upgrade too?

Unless you have a typo, a KT7A is a socket A motherboard (I have one) that supports up to a 1.4 ghz Athlon, unless you have the newest pcb, and then some of them will work on the XP series CPUs.

Ver. 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 of the KT7A support up to the 1.4 Tbird; Ver. 1.3 does support the XP line although I'm not sure if there are any issues or not. I'd check here for any other questions. Gotta remember that the manual for these MB's was written before the XP line of CPU's was available. At the time they did support all Athlons and Durons up to the at that time maximum.

Forgive my ignorance but how do you tell the difference between KT7-RAID and KT7A-RAID? It's an unused system right now that I was thinking of upgrading the proc to something faster than a duron 650. Also, how do you know which REV 1.0/1.1/1.2/1.3? Thanks!

Cyber Rage well to know what revision you have it should be on your isa slot with a sticker that says V 1.0, V 1.1, V 1.2, or V 1.3. To find out if you have a Abit KT7 or a Abit KT7A is by knowing if you have a KT133 or KT133A chipset. The Abit KT7 has the KT133 chipset the Abit KT7A has the KT133A chipset. I own a Abit KT7A raid revision v 1.0 which my Athlon XP 1800+ works on but i had to raise my voltages in my bios all the way for it to work stable. But thats ok. Without rasing voltages all the way it froze on me for some reason. Who knows it may have been my gf4 ti series video card doing it too.

Yeah, good job Abit, tell us the KT7A will definitely support the XP CPUs through "only a BIOS update". Nope, entirely new board revision, leaving most of us in the dust.

Yeah but its nice that my KT7A raid revision v 1.0 mobo works with my Athlon XP 1800+ just fine without having to buy a new mobo just yet! I bet everyone would beable to get a Athlon XP to work on their older revision Abit KT7A or Abit KT7A raid mobo revisions! Not saying it does but i bet there is a good chance there is that every one out there does.

So, I have a KT-7 Rev 1.01. Looking at prices of 1.4 Gig T birds (max speed capable apparently), there are 2, the 200 and 266 version. Will either work as long as my ram is 133? Thanks! All you guys are always so helpful and patient!!!
