Here is the deal-
I put this new comp together a week ago it just started having stability problems. Whenever i try to boot it up, it gets to the Windows 98 screen and even though the taskbar-like thing on the bottom is moving, it never boots up. So i restart it and it boots up into safe mode no problem. Then i click restart from safe mode and it boots up into windows normally. Any idea why it does that?

Setup-
kt7a-raid
128mb pc133 w/ infineon
duron 800 @800
sblive value
tnt2 32 meg
d-link ethernet adapter
250W power supply
ibm fireball 27gig hdd
floppy
10x cheap dvd drive

I have Windows 98SE installed.

Thanks

I haven't really messed with the bios. I originally intended to overclock it, but i haven't done anything yet... I did set the ram to run at pc100 to increase stability, but i doubt that is the problem. my fsb is still 100*2

have you installed the VIA's All-in-one DRIVER??
That might very be the problem.

When you built or upgraded the components did you go from Intel to AMD? Is this a fresh operating system install?

Goto Paul's Unofficial Abit KT7 & KT7 Raid (KT7A & KT7A Raid also) website. There is tons of good info there - very helpful stuff

I too have a KT7A - which has finally got my Duron 700 working at upto 1000Mhz with 133FSB

It could be power related.

I notice that with my 300W power supply my Coolermaster 5000rpm CPU fan only runs at 4300-4400 with one additional case fan to exhaust warm air at the rear.

In the quest for knowledge I decided to disconnect the additional fan to see if it was indeed cooling the system, I now notice that my CPU fan is operating at 4600-4700rpm....perhaps my PS is not good enough either?
