I have a Belkin 2 port economy KVM....excellent video quality, no noticeable degradation of the signal. I would think that the 4 port switch would be just as good.

Cheers

I've been looking at some....the Belkin SOHO looks to have good cable management along with USB, and sounds switching...beware though, doesn't come with any cables (and good ones can cost a lot)!

Try "Advanced Search" of General Hardware for both current and archived threads (keyword "KVM"). There have been at least 4-5 good long threads on this over the last 4-5 months.

Cables are more important than the actual switch.
Good sheilded cables will cost you.
I got a PS/2 KVM, 4 port on FS/FT for 100 bucks I think, with good cables. I love it.
It's a cybex switchview. I've had it for a while now.

I really like that one. Just remember it doesn't come with any cables! Quality cables will cost you as much or more then the switch! (Don't skimp on the video cables! Quality does matter with vid!)

At a LAN party I help run, we've used a 4 port KVM the last two parties for our servers, and I'm pretty sure it was belkin. Works great.

I recommend that you also take the time to purchse an AC adaptor with that. Everyone I know that has one has had nothing but problems when switching pcs without one.

Would VNC work for your situation? It's free and it works.

Tell me about expensive. I have the 4 port version and use all belkin cables but it's worth it IMHO.

I know that you guys are for the most part home users, but I was thinking about getting a rack mountable KVM switch instead of a regular home one. Still 4 port, but just rack mountable. And, I would like to have USB support. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I recently bought an Iogear MiniView SE 4 port KVM, and I like it better than my old Belkin KVM. Plus, it came with cables.

I'm running an IoGear MiniView III with a Planar 19" LCD. No noticeable video degradation. Only downfall is USB keyboard only.

Do KVMs with USB connections for the mouse and keyboard behave the same way? Anyways I have a belkin 2 port kvm and whenever I switch computers, I have to reboot to get my extra mouse buttons and wheel to work again. setup: MX700 mouse on a normal ps/2 kvm

I'd recommend checking out tightvnc. It has speed improvements over the original Bell Labs version.
