KVM switch recommendations

I'm looking to get a KVM switch so I can have my gaming PC and laptop docking station all hooked up to the same monitor/mouse/keyboard. Any recommendations or things to think about? Should I pay extra for Dynamic Device Mapping (DDM) or is it not worth it?

Sorry to completely ignore your question, but might it not be easier to use remote desktop software to use the laptop? Just plug it into your home network and connect to it from the gaming computer.

Connectpro KVMs and their DDM tech really do work, speaking from personal experience. Probably your best chance for maintaining connected device functionality, although at a bit of a price premium. I also don't know if they have DP switches yet-- you may be in for an adventure with DP--DVI adapters if not. If your display takes native DVI and your end devices can use non-powered DP to DVI adapters, it may be quite easy.

No experience with the linked KVM, unfortunately.

I'm in the same boat. I working on building a new main rig. I'm still a ways away. After that is finished I plan on getting a new monitor though. It will be above 1080p and possibly ultra-widescreen. My concerns would be pushing further than 2560 x 1600 @60Hz. That StarTech switch says it can go as high as 3840 x 2400 at a lower refresh rate. Who wants to go lower than 60Hz?

I also need 4 ports. One for my main rig, one for the file server and two available ports for when I'm working on other computers. I think that DDM is very desirable feature. Read the comments on those that purchased the StarTech switch. You want your devices to stay connected and not have the video go to sleep or change resolutions.

I don't see one made by StarTech or ConnectPRO that provides all that I want. Is the limited resolution due to the limitations with DisplayPort? Please provide links to those devices if you have them.
