sorry bsobel but maybe I'm not very good at searching, every time I search for something I never turn up with anything. And BTW I am not clueless because my friend installed SP2 and it fuc.ked up his machine, you really think I would like to do the same? You'd likely would but I wouldn't I'm very cautious when making huge system changes.
Some people have had trouble installing SP2 on an existing XP install. This is almost always due to:
1. Spyware installed on their PC prior to installation
2. Bad drivers installed on their PC prior to installation
3. A handful of incompatible programs installed on their PC (DivX comes to mind, perhaps VirtualCD?)
Still, I haven't heard of any "bad SP2 installation" that couldn't be recovered from. Like any major system change (even installing SP1 had problems back in the day), you should backup essential files, ensure that you have a restore point in System Restore, and research the incompatible software issues that people are having so you can be prepared. Worse case scenario, you have to uninstall SP2.
