Kyro II or Monitor Problem

I'm just putting together a new system. I've loaded Windows 2000 Pro and everytime to go to "shutdown/restart," my monitor goes into power save mode and shuts down. My video card is the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 (Kyro II/64meg), my monitor is the Hitachi CM772. I've loaded the latest driver from the Hercules website. Is the problem with the card, the monitor, or my MOBO (Epox 8K7A). Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a Monitor/Software setting. Video card does not contorl your monitor at least from the standby settings. Does it not come back on when the computer reboots?

I just switched out monitors, and I get the same problem using a different monitor. So it sounds like a video card problem or a MOBO. My 2d rig has built in video, so I can't switch those to see if it's the card. Any guesses on how to fix? Thanks.

Hmm.

Have you tried going into control panel and turning off all power management settings? If not give that a shot. I am not sure whats causing it and I have never seen a video card cause the problem. I have only saw similar things happen when the settings in the bios/windows settings were having problems.

Go into windows and turn all power managment settings off. Then attempt to restart it and see if that fixes it.

If this does not....

Go into your bios and turn any power management settings off. Then test it. If this fixes the problem then it appears some setting within your bios might be causing the problem.

If this does not fix it I would attempt to change out video cards and see if it still happens on this motherboard. It may be a conflict between the motherboard and the card. Not saying it is just trying to check things one at a time.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

dfloyd, thanks ,I've tried your suggestions. No luck. Everytime I do a soft restart in W2K, my monitor powers off. Have you heard of any compatibily issues with the 8K7A and the Kyro II?

I dont personally know of any conflicts. In fact I was looking at purchasing this motherboard and probably that video card as well. I think I have talked to several people using them and no one has mentioned any problems.

One more thing you can try. Download the current inf for your monitor.

Other than that not sure what to check other than changing the card out and trying another to see if it still happens.

I also have an Epox 8K7A and a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 and I've seen none of these issues with my Philips 107S monitor. I'm running Windows 98SE, though.

Try checking all the power management settings again, both in Windows (through the control panel and in the display properties) and in the BIOS. Other than that, you may want to go down to a local computer store and pick up a cheap AGP video card and test that out. I know my CompUSA has one for $20. You can always return it later on. See if that has issues with the monitor. If it does, then you know it's something on the motherboard somewhere. If it doesn't, then you know it's the video card. At least it's better than having to wait for a replacement from Hercules!

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I pulled the card and reinstalled. Same problem. I reinstalled the latest driver from Hercules, no help. I've played with the power management settings, no help. One twist though, when I have the "soft restart" problem, my off switch on my rig works only after being pushed-in for 4-5 seconds, although in my Bios I have it set for "instant off." This delay only seems to happen after my monitor shuts down after a "soft restart."

Try updating your monitor drivers to their latest iteration. I believe this is to do with not having plug & play drivers. If your monitor doesn't have any drivers, then try the Sony ones as I believe they may be multicompatible.

I think that I've fixed the problem. I had a Netgear FA311 NIC installed. I uninstalled that card and pulled it out of the slot. The monitor shutdown problem appears to be solved by uninstalling the Netgear card.

I as well as a LOT of others have the problem on the epox 8k7a. It will NOT let us warm-boot.

I am VERY interested in how many others have a netgear fa311. I know I have a netgear fa311. Maybe THIS is what stops my computer from warm booting. HUMMMMMMM

Removing the Netgear card has solved my monitor problem. I'm not sure what conflicted with the Netgear card, but so far so good. BTW, I still haven't figured out which other NIC will not cause a conflict. Any ideas?
