"No 4X is working fine in 2 games I tested. 75% hit?
The hit for me is about the same as jumping up one resolution.
"

Its likely that the system is geometry limited rather than fillrate limited in 16bit - try the same in 32bit and you'll probably seem more like a 75% hit.

LOL, I have been following this thread from the beginning, haven't been saying much since I don't have kyro2. but At this time I will stand by my comment that the kyro2 is a side step to a V5.
It also amuses me how a few people here keep try to say that a MX is a better card than a V5.

I've had a Voodoo5 and to me Kyro II's not a side step its an upgrade, its faster, it has more features then the Voodoo5 like trilinear filtering, anisotropic filtering, EMBM, Dot3, just look at gygheyzeus the person who started this thread and upgraded from a Voodoo5 to Kyro II, he said:

"Well, IMHO, I love my Kyro II now that I've mucked around with it a bit more. It was a worthy replacement to my VD5"

PowerVR: your no worse than most of the AMD fanatics on these forums.

Most of what you say is true anyway. As I like to say, "Don't knock it til you try it"

<<the Kyro II is not somesort of Savage3d styles card thats hit and miss and doesn't work with certain games, this is a very stable and very compatible card.>>
teasy, thanks for your response. I will be interested to see that list. now, could you tell us whether the original Kyro has the same feature set as the Kyro II with updated drivers? after all it is supposed to use a chip only modified for a higher clock later. the Kyro price has slumped below the MX and I wondered if it was worth a spin.
RobsTV, interesting info, I didn't get around to 16 bit color OGSS yet personally.

KYROI and KYROII are exactly the same in terms of features, so theres not really much worry there. KYRO uses a unified code base as well, so the updated KYROII drivers also work on KYROI, with the same results.

RobsTV,

thats cool that you getting good numbers. But looking at the numbers you showed I am seeing that the game is more or less CPU bound. If you look at other games that are more or less fill rate limted, Q3 being an example then you will see a huge hit on FSAA numbers.

My favorite game is CS and that is more or less CPU bound. So going from no FSAA to x4 FSAA is almost free

well ...
as you all are talking about the Kyro II, so let me ask this ...

i dont like Nvidia's card so i plan a VD5 or Kyro II or something from ATI ...

the question is ... I use Linux, and would like to play as much as possible there, so a Kyro II is a deal for me ? i heard that KII dont have any Linux Support ... and as some here do know about KII i'm so at the best place to look for this info ...

my vd3 and i know the vd5 run fine at Linux, is this true for a KII/ATI ?

there is no linux drivers right now for the Kyro2. PowerVr is working on them however, but there is not an ETA on when they will be released

Of course everyone's opinion is going to differ on this thread. I'm just saying from personal experience that the KyroII is a worthy upgrade from the Voodoo5.

However, if I had a GeForce 2 GTS 64MB, a KyroII wouldn't be a good upgrade.

On another note, lets talk about FSAA.

I can honestly say I like the anti-aliasing on my KyroII better than that on my VD5. Does that mean this is the best card for anti-aliasing?

Whoaaa. What do you mean by that? I had the V5 the day it came out. I am trying a k2 now. Its FSAA is no where near as good as the V5. Trust me I am very good at picking out jaggies while playing the game, be it FPS, flight, racing ect. Plus the V5 cards handles Texture alasing better thanks to its RGSS method. The only think the K2 has on the V5 in terms of FSAA is speed. Hell the GF3 FSAA is below the V5s. I am impressed with the k2. Its a nice card. But after playing with its FSAA, I'd say they need to work on it more with the K3.

Just my opinion. I find that the KyroII is superior in its FSAA when setting it to Vertical (not Horizonal).

I could also be forgetting what my VD5 looked like, it's been 2-3 weeks since I got rid of it.

And this is only in the games that I play... you may not play the same types of games as me

gotta love the way a thread morphs; gives me a chance to ask a question though. Using a Duron 700 at 840 and an existing V3-2K, would I see a noticeable increase by moving to the Kyro II?? Most of the games I play are older ones (Baldur's Gate 2, CS, and even some dos games). I'm looking to upgrade but could just as easily upgrade my cpu at this point also. What's the opinion out there?? And thanks for letting me borrow your thread gygheyzeus

lalakai, definately upgrade. You'll be pleasantly suprised by the performance increase, IMHO. Add to that the splendors of FSAA, and you'll be happier than a pig in sh!t.

yep, kind'a figured that the old v3-2k was out-dated. Looks like I'll opt for the Kyro II. thanks.

Yeah, you can't go wrong. Reason why, I had a Voodoo 3 3000 for about a year, and then went to the Voodoo 5... got more than 50% increase in performance.

They finally post Kyro2 on pricewatch on the price comparing list. Is easier to compare the Kyro2 price now.

Just to those who didn't know yet.
