I wouldn't consider a Voodoo 5 at all these days. I like the Geforce Pro a lot but it might be best to wait for the new GeForce 3 MXs to arrive

3dfx isn't out of the question, it depends on how long you're looking to use your video card.
NVIDIA IS for FPS, if you're looking for 2d image quality (ie not blurriness in comparison) or 3D colours, look elsewhere!

Mallow, not true.
It's brand dependant, Creative has horrible 2D quality(I know this from first hand experience), while Elsa/Visiontek, Gainward, and supposedly Leadtek has quite good 2D quality.

Anyways, I'd go for the Pro, or if you wanna save a few bucks, the Kyro.

Yes it's true to me, I had a gainward cardexpert geforce3, revealed by anandtech.com as the best 2D quality in a Geforce3 card. Suffice to say it's blurrier than my voodoo 5. If this is you, get a geforce3:
You play games.
You turn on your OS to play games.
You think about games at school.
You don't do word processing, programming, talking on the net, browsing the web.
Your monitor is only turned on to play a game.

That's a bit far but my point is ATI and 3DFX and MATROX are known for more well rounded performance, where Nvidia is by far pushing the limits of FPS. The text is blurrier on the gainward I had, it becomes an opinion if you don't notice the difference or care for it.

I'm back on my voodoo 5 and for the games I play, and today's games basically - it's better than the nvidia I had, OVERALL for me.

Mallow i don't agree with you, My friend had a vooDoo5 on a decent 17in monitor... 2d and 3d pretty nice.. but on my NEC... with my Gainward 3... i can tell YOU... MY 2d and 3d ARE BETTER.....

If you have a top of the line monitor.. may-b thats why your voodoo looks so good...but if your in the area to get a card... Gainward, Elsa, and Visiontek all have sweet 2d! and AWESOME 3d

Go with the Kyro2. It's faster than the Vooodoo5 with better image quality, it's often times as fast or faster than the gf2pro in games yet it costs over $50 with better image quality...what's not to like?

er...I had it on a 17" Trinitron and a 21" Trinitron... .24 and .23 DPP respectively.

Sorry man, it's a reknown opinion that Nvidia doesn't have superior 2D quality.

Snoop...what games to you play most of the time. Call me insane, but I'm still a huge V5 fan. I bought mine last Nov from Staples.com for 140....and it still is serving me well. With the X-3dfx driver updates, it's gotten better...and since I mainly only play Counter-Strike, it offers great speed, and superior quality compared with my friends GF2Ultra. I play cs at 1024x768 w/4x FSAA on and get FPS of about 70 consistantly. And when I dled the Return to Castle Wolfenstein test, I thought it would be hard to run it efficiently. . . but I get great fps at 1600x1200 w/no FSAA on, and jaggies are limited.

I'm not saying that you should necesarily go with the V5, but don't listen to the descenders of it...it really depends on what you are using it for. When I bought mine, everyone told me that I was a huge idiot, but I'm still extremely happy with it.

Heh this must be the easiest decision. Voodoo5 is garbage. Kyro II is good but it doesn't have on-board T&L. So that leaves us with..

well...whatever one of these cards you get....your gonna have to upgrade within a year anyways....but I'd go for a Kyro II...
