I recently purchased an 85 Nina 900. I was wondering if anyone can reccomend what type, and brand of oil I should use in the bike. I normally run Castrol GTX high mileage in something like this, but I'm not sure what weight. The bike has 35K miles on it.

Also I know I need to buy a manual, which i'm in the progress of doing, as well as having the bike painted. Anyone have any suggestions on places to buy parts. I already have a new windscreen from RideGear.com, which I am very happy with. Also if anyone knows how to tighten the chain I would appreciate some advice.

Other than that the bike is ready to go, fluids, tires, etc.

I also have to buy one more K&N airfilter, b/c on on the left side of the carbs is missing. Bike needs some carb adjustment, but runs great.

Thanks for any advice, or knowledge of this Bike....

I don't know your bike, but 10-40 should do fine.

If you look at the bike from the rear, are there two bolts that stick out from behind where the wheel axle meets the frame? If so, loostening the axle, then adjusting those bolts should move the wheel back if screwed in one direction. DO NOT TAKE UP ALL CHAIN SLACK!

You want to be able to move the bottom of the chain. it should sag an inch to and inch and a half if it is like most bikes. Parts? No help there I am afraid. Depends on what you need.

Make sure the oil you use is not labeled "Energy Conserving." These oils have friction modifiers in them that will cause the clutch to slip.

ThanX for the replies.

Smith, I just need the K&N, which i can get from ridegear, it cost about $60... Is that about right?

BullDozer is Castrol "Energy Conserving?" I was told Castrol GTX high mileage wouldn't foam up like other motor oils when it becomes hot. Mechanic told me to run that in my other bike. 10/40 is a good weight then?

Thanks again guys....

Anyone know of any problems associated with this bike? Also I may have to buy a front fering later on down the road, anyone know of a good place to buy?

Don't use a K&N air filter unless you're willing to sacrifice your engines life.

Yes, they breathe better. However, due to physics, this also means worse filtration. Foam filters offer the best filtration to air flow ratio, as far as I've been able to determine.

As far as oil, use a genuine motorcycle oil, 10W-40. Synthetic preferrably, especially if the bike is air cooled.

I prefer not to use Castrol, but it's all in preference. I'd use Mobil1.

I already have the helmet and riding gear. I'm not crazy on the bike either. I know about the precautions, and with all that said, do you really know how hard it is to ride a beast like that and not let it flex at least half its muscle?

I am an organ donor btw

Oh, if you use a genuine motorcycle oil(that is, specific motorcycle oil, not car engine oil), you won't have to worry about the whole friction modifyer thing.
