Try playing expert, it provides a pretty good challenge for playing with friends, and quite a mountain to climb when playing with public players. It's not as bad as on release since most people have an idea of what they're doing now, but I definitely don't think its too easy. The difficulty under expert is much easier (I think its called hard) and I wouldn't bother with it.

Edit: Just tried playing a survival match, they were all new to the game and one guy said it was his second time playing. I spent a few minutes explaining strategy and where we would defend. after 1:30:00 2 guys were down including me being pulled bya smoker, and the other 2 were standing there doing nothing at all. Today is not a good day to play l4d.

Tried this last night, I think I'll probably pick it up tonight off Steam. Worth $24 to play some good co-op with peeps that aren't close enough to play Halo anymore.

Ah, the confusing part was that it has never been cheaper than $25 through steam, so I instinctively connected the 15-20 with the months portion as he didn't include the $ sign. MSRP was $49.99 and there was a 50% off weekend around Feb 14. This weekend its 40% off $39.99 MSRP, or $23.99.

I don't find survival easy...getting gold pretty much requires a good team as poor teammates will result in destruction very fast.

And versus isn't really about scores so much as it is about beating the other team...

Played one round last night... I apparently ended up getting kicked at the end of the round because someone wasn't pleased with us losing I guess. Needless to say, it's worth $9.99, maybe $14.99 at best. And they picked the stupidest timeframe to give F2P... 24 hours during a workday?

Yeah, probably same here. The game didn't really grab me. I have an hour left to pay right now, but I'm going to play TF2 instead.

I tried it out while it was still free today and got to the first safe house. That was all I needed to see to be convinced this is a game worth buying. When I quit I was pleasantly surprised to see it was onlly $23.99. Cha-ching, bought it.

You're playing it all wrong, newbs are a resource like medpacks and pipe bombs. Being chased by special infected? Maybe a tank?? No problem! Just incapacitate a nearby newb and it will distract whatever is chasing you long enough to make your escape, you might even make it all the way to the saferoom and be a hero! Be warned though theres only a possible maximum of 3 newbs per level so make emm count...

I laughed at this strategy except for the fact that noobs also don't like initiating the move forward which resulted in me dying first.

Most fun I have had playing a game in a long time!! I can't believe some of you don't find this exhilarating! Nothing like being in the dark and getting jumped by 50 zombies, or having someone accidentally set off an alarm for the first time. OMG!

Left 4 Dead is freakin' mental. I think I've never had such a rush in an action game. I thought it would have a slower pace, tougher zombies a la Resident Evil... then you get the first horde and 30 zombies try to bite your guts out!

Unbelievable. Plus in my 4 years old rig it goes very, very smooth with all settings maxed and 4xAA.
