La Belle Industries LED signs

Hi, my school hasn't had their led signs working for more than five years, mostly because they can't figure out how to work them. We found the remote that uses what i believe is called a ribbon cable to connect to the sign. Once we turned the sign on (using a breaker to power the outlet) it had messages written from a very long time ago (I'm talking like 5-10 years). On the back of the remote it had some instruction and said for more instructions look in manual, which unfortunately we do not have. We did what it said to create or edit new message but there was no response. We did however use the remote to see the the previous messages written. La Belle Industries do not have a website. I will post pictures and additional info on this in the following days.

Help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED asap.

I would look online for the manual. Failing that, call them and have them ship you a new one.

I would just start hitting buttons. Worst case scenario, you turn it back off for another 5-10 years. Also, see if your can find the original purchase order. The person you got it from should have a phone number on there and maybe they're still in business (I'm gonna guess not though).

Personally I've never heard of them and I'm in the sign business (for about 3 years so this is WAY before my time). The company I work for is a reseller of Daktronics.

I agree with just start hitting buttons. Its not like it won't shut itself back off again if you kill the power.

I know the ones we use for our schools around here are all controlled by some app that we give the office coordinators.

Haven't really dealt with one <1-2 years old.

Post pictures of everything. The model number, the remote, the connectors, etc.

We cannot try to help you if you do not give something to search on.

If you are able to read it then you're most of the way there. That means that the serial interface is working.

I just acquired one of these signs. Is there ANY way you can post / send manual information? I have no manual and it would be such a help. Are you able to scan it or anything? If you have a smartphone and Google Docs, it'll let you take pictures of pages and create a PDF. I would appreciate this so very much!

We have a LaBelle 152 LE SEE that still appears to work but we don't know how to use it. When we plug it in, it still displays the old messages. No one can find a manual. We don't even know how information reaches the display.

Thanks for any advice or pointing us in the direction of whatever resources we might need.

Is it in an area where it can be opened up? I would look at the IC chips for numbers you can get datasheets for. Might get lucky and one will be some kind of matrix controller and the datasheet will have the language in it. You can then just use an arduino or other custom driver to drive it from a computer.

Situations like this are typical with oddball/specialized equipment as some company comes around makes a bunch of these things, they get used by a limited number of specialized consumers, then the company vanishes and there's no resources or anything as far as support goes. Even more common in the medical field. So many hospital systems run on NT4 and lower because the company that makes the software no longer exist but it's running something really critical like heart monitors. Actually kind of scary lol.

I am interested in installing LED underwater lights at the stern of my 262CR. I have to fine ones that will light up past the swim platform. Has anyone done this? If so, how were your results?
