a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people and buildings into its depths.
Within the sinkhole appears to be a rift in time and/or space.

Those hundreds are people are in a new strange and mysterious land.
Kinda like the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 from LOST.

And like LOST, there's a prevalent symbol in this new land:

I grew up in west Los Angeles. There's an area pretty much in the middle of L.A. (pretty close to Hollywood) they called (CALL) The La Brea Tar Pits. It had (i.e. HAS!) prehistoric animals' bones in it that they excavated from the tar. I imagine that's what has given rise to this series. I don't get cable, so ...

This show has gotten terrible reviews and Reddit seems to agree that it's a disaster, the writing is shit, the special effects are shit, and even most of the acting is shit

Apparently i'm glad i forgot it premiered the other night. I was planning on catching the 1st few episodes just to see what it was like.
I have a hard time getting into a tv series anymore. I'd rather watch a sitcom or... something where if i miss a week or 2 i'm not lost.

The term "The next LOST" is something I never want to hear again. They've all sucked. Manifest only succeeded as long as it did because it went full-out woke and people confuse that for good art these days.

There's another wokeish LOST copy (almost a reboot, I guess) that remakes the cast with all teenage girls or something. I don't know what it's called, where it plays, or if its still on but it evidently its good for a few laughs.

Did you know that ABC has been inundated for years about rebooting the original show? Like dozens of pitches so far. The LOST creators don't want it to happen but they say they have no control.

Coincidentally La Brea is on right now so I decided to watch a little.

After the opening scenes which introduce the heroine (WAY too much focus on her handicap imo) and the problematic alcoholic father the show proceeds to what is at times almost a shot by shot remake of the opening of LOST.

First you get the closeup of the moms eye (just like the opening scene of LOST)
After she meets a dude she runs toward smoke, and after focusing on her face for a second the camera spins around to reveal the wreckage of an AIRLINER....

Just kidding. Its the wrecked of a part of LA that fell down the hole with her, I guess.

Hey, you never know, this could be a revival of Surface.

Almost certainly not, but maybe.

This show looks a lot more like Primeval.

Which was pretty good, although I thought the misogyny was pretty thick the first couple of seasons ("series").

Hah, probably. I didn't bother watching the last few episodes of Game of Thrones. I wish I had done the same with Lost.

I agree.

NBC pulled the plug on "Revolution," an intriguing show about all electricity being turned off, which turned into an insipid soap opera. I never understood the introduction of those fireflies.

Another show I liked which was cancelled after a single season was "The Event."

I believe the real problem is that TV show producers and writers believe they're going to develop a hit that will last as long as "Mash" or "Gunsmoke." All they see are endless paychecks and residuals. But few shows last that long anymore.

Maybe they should aim for an engaging Sci-Fi show that lasts for two or three seasons with a clear wrap-up.

So far, I like La Brea. But I loved "Almost Human," too.

Hell…Debris was far and away superior in every aspect vs. La Brea.
