You have no idea what kind of mind frame cops are in on duty. When they order to do something, you must do it. There is no ifs and ors, They have to put up with so much BS from idiots on a daily basis. You were not in their shoes and you don't know what happened. I'm sure they knew what they were doing since they are more qualified to handle these kinds of situations. Instead of celebrating our heroic cops, these people constantly bash them. What a disgusting country.

Heroic cops who could've killed 100+ innocent people because of their stupidity and poor aim?

Highly unlikely, but still possible. However you look at it they were irresponsible. A cop on duty better be in a frame of mind that involve clear rational thinking or he/she shouldn't be on duty.

I'm tired of people saying they are just human. NO. They are trained to be POLICE while they are working, they aren't me. If they react no better than I or an average individual would then they have no business being in law enforcement.

damn criminals.

Well I just watched the video. Outside of his drug use he hadn't done anything wrong. Well Rodney King walked away with over 5 large, this guy will get at least 2 large. There was no excuse at all for shooting at him like that. And what gets me is as close as they were they could have easily shot out his tires and he wouldn't have been able to go nowhere. They tried to kill a person, not good.

Yeah that justifies shooting 120 times at an unarmed man :disgust:
Isn't it against the law to shoot at someone who doesn't pose a threat to you?
He's a douchebag for not stopping.

Once you start running from the cops, you lose the right to complain about what happens afterwards.

Are you retarded? Did you fall off the short bus? If you start running away, does that give the cops a right to execute the suspect?

It has been confirmed that he is a complete moron.

$2,000?

As for shooting out his tires... have you ever fired a handgun? At any reasonable range you'd be wasting your time shooting at a moving strip of rubber that's only a few inches wide. Especially if he had those big ugly wheels that people with poor taste like to put on their SUVs.

Due to riccocet, shooting at any metal object that close with people nearby is idiot and suicidal IMHO. If you are aiming for a rubber tire and hit a metal rim, the bullet is going to deflect back somewhere. That's totally irresponsible and badges should be revoked for this.

I'm one of the last people to bash cops for doing their jobs, but unless the guy had previously been shooting people down, what I saw in the video wasn't acceptible. Since this video was apparently taken AFTER the slow-motion chase, it seems that the police had tried to talk to the guy, he sped off, and then the cops managed to block him off with their cruisers. It would have been a marvelous opportunity to make an arrest with no shots fired. Actually, I wouldn't cry foul even if they had fired a few times...after all, the guy seemed like he wasn't stopping...but 120 rounds in "two sustained volleys"?

Let's just say that the LAPD has their reputation for a reason.

Apples and oranges, stealing candy from the store doesn't make you a public safety threat. Matching the description of a vehicle that fired shots earlier and evading the police in an SUV does.

Driving the same car as a reported criminal makes it OK for the cops to riddle you with bullets??? I agree the guy acted like an idiot, he should have just talked to the cops and clarified that he was not the same guy...but it could have been handled better.

1) If you're trained properly, even though you have a hard time thinking, you should be able to make the right choice. A friend of mine used to be a a military police officer. He was stabbed once, and even in SHOCK he was able to look around to check for people in the background before firing... and he got the guy in the leg like he wanted to. HE will tell you (and he'd know as well as anyone) that it was TOTALLY because of his training that he was able to have that clear of a head after being stabbed in the stomach. This situation is no different.

2) For the last fvcking time, not every cop was aiming at the suspect. What were they aiming at? How about the windshields and the engine compartment? You hit the windshields because it frightens the guy and because you'll need them gone to see into the vehicle when you go to get the guy out (they were tinted windows). You hit the tires, as some said, and you can see clearly that the front tires are shot out. You also could hit the radiator or other wiring or belts that could rend the vehicle inoperable.

3) The cops fired too much, period. It wasn't so excessive that I feel criminal charges are in order, but there didn't need to be quite that many shots fired. 3 or 4 shots from every officer would have sufficed. Notice that two shots are fired and THEN everyone opens fire. Either those two fired and communication was faulty enough that the others didn't know the shots came from policemen, or one guy shot twice and the rest might have thought it came from the car.

4) The guy ran from the cops, and he was in a dangerous vehicle. He CLEARLY peels out and IS moving when the shots are first fired, then he stops, then he rolls forward, presumably after he let off the brakes. As soon as he hit the gas, shots being fired are understandable. NOT THAT MANY SHOTS, but some are understandable. And yes, if you're behind the wheel then you are in possession of a deadly weapon, and if you're too stupid to stop, then you SHOULD forfeit your right to live. Nobody ever advocated shooting a guy that steals a donut from a convenience store, but this is a different situation.

5) Don't quote what the law says, because I'm only concerned with what was right. You know when you drive away that something might happen and the situation might escalate. That guy made a choice to disobey people that he knew had firearms. As soon as he hits the accelerator the first time, fvck him. He's a moron. I don't care if he's dead in the end.

6) NOT in contradicition to what was in my first post, I don't think it's possible to both put enough people in the streets to protect us and at the same time have everyone on the scene capable of handling that situation properly. Why don't all you criminal sympathizers think about the cops for a second?! They have lives. Many have families. They just want to wake up the next morning safe. Blame the PD for not having better training, but those cops didn't do anything vicious in my opinion. They saw a guy they believed to be armed try to get away, and then squeal his tires when surrounded... you have to assume he's either planning on running again or hitting someone. These are human beings, people. When some scumbag in an SUV won't pull over, you start to worry about what he'll do. You want to see your wife and kids again. You want to see your parents again. You want to go to the Dodgers game again. Whatever.

Best post in the thread.

These cops are morons. I'm not saying all cops are, but Jesus, they sign up for some danger and an SUV at a standstill isn't a danger. 120 rounds fired and more of them hit innocent bystanders homes rather then the suspect. I'm not condoning what the suspect did, but come on, I don't want cops like that "protecting" me. These cops need to:

a)stop being such pansies and shooting at things because they are too stupid to think of anything else to do in the situation

b)learn how to shoot and

c)focus on the "threat" rather then the camera man, who was only endangered by the wreckless sporadic shooting of the police.

We had a local guy that died during a high speed chase when he fled from the cops on his motorcycle and bit it going way too fast trying to outrun them. Then the family tried to sue the cops because they caused his death somehow. Pretty lame.

Wow, this could have been ALOT WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They just fired alot of rounds at some random guy cruising the streets high on drugs. They hit his toe and his finger and his shoulder and no one died.

Of course, I'm sure the legal consequences will still be severe for this CLASS-A FUCKUP. Reminds me of hearing of the Boston tea-party reconstructions when all the red-coats started firing and once.

BUT... in defense of the cops, and of our soldiers, when they believe their life is in danger, they shouldn't hesitate, it could mean their own death.

It's just up to them to evaluate when they are in danger, and to make GOOD DECISIONS. This seems like a poor one.

well the thing is this happens all the time and the police are trained to do exactly what they did.

He tried to injure/kill officers - therefore he is met with deadly force.

Same thing happened in my home town. Dummy tried to run over a cop - dummy got killed (causing a big uproar with the criminals and subsequent lawsuits, trying to file charges failed). In fact another one just happened - dummy women tried to run over police, police start shooting her.

I really fail to see how they didn't follow procedure.

-edit- our police departement also shot and killed a handcuffed criminal. Dummy came after the police with a knife while handcuffed.

Scary that they all started firing like a wild ejaculation frenzy... even scarier is that only one bullet out of 120 hit what they were aiming at, from 5 meteres away.

Jesus motherloving Christ.... :disgust:

he was hit 4 times.
