Lack of energy at times of day and hands shaking a little - any idea what that means?

Lately, I've been getting tired a bit quickly, maybe 8 or 9 hours into my day. I've also noticed that my fingers shake a little, not enough to cause me to spill a drink or anything, but just enough for me to notice when I'm not holding something. I met my parents today and my mom noticed it just when we were sitting down in a lobby.

I browsed around a little online and one possibility is low blood sugar. I haven't been eating as well as I could be, so that's a possibility, I should probably try and have 3 or 4 meals a day instead of skipping breakfast, late lunch, and then a late dinner.

I'm going to schedule a time with my doctor, but till then, is there anything I can track so I can jot numbers down to show to my doctor? I also want to find how it's impacted so I can do things throughout the day to keep my blood sugar as leveled as possible.

Basically, any advice for me? I don't think it's a major issue based on what I've read online, but would like to do something if possible.

Sounds like low blood sugar. Try eating better and avoid high-processed sugar foods that induce sugar rushes (which cause you to crash). Also consider eating some healthy snacks during the day to help give you a boost during the day.

I was gonna say - it almost sounds like low blood sugar. I would do exactly what you suggested. Eat better and see if that helps. Definitely schedule the appointment though... there's a possibility it could be diabetes or something.

Nope - I have maybe 1 coke per day at most, but today I had 3, so for my body, it's a relatively large amount. I think this has contributed to today's feeling.

I should try and get rid of soft drinks and other sugary things from my daily intake.

Ok, I'll work on the eating and see if it impacts anything, thanks!

Good idea - I should carry some small snacks with me when I know I'm going to be away.

Yeah, go easy on the caffeine. I find that anything more than 8oz of Mountain Dew leaves me feeling like I'm going to go nuts. I get fidgety and anxious, which isn't good, cause I'm already a bit of an anxiety-prone person. And I shake a lot from the caffeine.

Don't skip breakfast. You go the entire night without a meal. At least give your body some calories so it can get going.

I don't seem to tell any difference between sugars - processed versus fruit, for example. Sugar is pretty much sugar. I'm pretty sure it all just gets turned into forms that the body needs for energy. But of course, the processed foods won't bring along the fiber or vitamins that fruit would.
I also don't get the "crash" effect that people describe, or the sugar rush. What I do feel is an increase in my heart rate, and it actually makes me feel a bit tired, like I get just after any meal. My sugar "rush" would be a rush to bed, to sleep it off.

Yeah, my solution would be too sleep it off too, but it just makes me unproductive and I'm not a fan of that. The 8 or 9 hours that I mentioned aren't necessarily when I'm doing things that consume me, just being awake is all it takes.

I'll start with eating better, it's something I've been making an effort towards with what I eat, and eating lighter meals, but I need to make sure to eat meals evenly spaced out and not skip breakfast.

Have you noticed a fast heart beat, or being warm all the time?

I don't think so - nothing like that has changed. If anything, I feel the opposite of warm - I feel my hands and feet are a little cold and pretty much always wear socks for that reason.

Do you get a cold sweat when your hands shake?

Also you can buy a sugar meter at almost any store. Most have refunds so the cost is pretty much free. When you feel yourself shaking, take a sample. If you're over 90, then its not low blood sugar.

Is this meter one where it pokes a little hole to get a blood sample? I think I might pick this up, not sure I like the idea of drawing blood each time, but I guess it's what I'll have to do.

For me it means I need a redbull, a shot of brandy and a couple cigarettes. That combo fixes almost anything.

I'm no doctor but I've interpreted for many people with your exact same symptoms. One person actually experienced these symptoms after he took an insulin shot to lower his blood sugar level to normal. The doctor said that his body was so accustomed to the high blood sugar levels that his body reacted when they dropped.

In HS, I'd wake up and not eat until around 4PM, after I got home and settled in. By the end of 8th period (3PM), I'd be pretty damn shaky.. which wasn't so great considering 8th period was band, and we marched a lot during football season. I played trombone, so it wasn't exactly the lightest. =p

EAT SOMETHING.

You should still get checked out though.. I was checked for juvenile diabetes in high school, because I had almost all the major signs.. but I was negative somehow. I still think they were wrong.. haha. To this day, I still "feel" diabetic.

That's really gross. The stimulant/depressant/stimulant combo really does a number on your body. Try adding another depressant. That should fix ya up nice and good.
