Hi,

I can't seem to get my FSB past 107 MHz before my Windows XP can't boot. I see some of you guys running at 140-170 even 200 MHz FSB and I was wondering if my setup had any problems. Here is the lackluster setup :

- ABIT KT7A-RAID (KT133A)
- Athlon TBird 1000 (10 x 100)
- 512MB of Generic RAM
- ASUS 7700 (GeForce 2 GTS)
- Gamesurround Fortissimo II
- 3COM Fast Ethernet NIC
- Hi Power 300w PSU (HSP-300-101, AMD recommended)

For more details : My Rig

I tried a couple of time to get my FSB to 110 MHz but the beast can't seem to take it.

Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciatted.

Thx.

I have a suggestion..set the multiplier to 7.5 and fsb to 133 and see what happens...are you sure it is KT133A..these mobos are made to run at 133 fsb..the Kt7(I think this is the name was a KT133 mobo and the best fsb was 110-115 for some)

I'm absolutely certain of the mobo model and this link will fix up your questions.

My Athlon is supposed to be at 100 MHz bus.

I just don't understand why I can't push it to 133... :\

Anyway, more thought please. I know the trend is to talk about P4, Athlon XP, 170Mhz FSB, and PC2400 RAM but poor students like me still have to play with the older stuff...

your problem is your generic memory... you should get some pc133 memory or unlock your processor with a pencil (connect the L1 bridges on the top of the processor with graphite #2)

You are probably running into PCI bus problems beginning at around 106-107 - the components on the PCI bus don't like running too far off of the 33MHz spec, and at 106 they're already running at 35MHz (your board uses a 3/1 divider from 100MHz up to around 125MHz). So don't inch your way up the fsb ladder, jump up to the 133MHz rung in one lunge. (Above around 125MHz, the motherboard changes to a 4/1 divider, so as to keep the PCI bus at its optimum 33Mhz.)

If this doesn't take care of it, then the next hurdle to get over is the fact that the m/b is trying, for a brief moment, to initialize the cpu with its default multiplier, which is 10. This means that if the cpu can't handle 1333MHz, the board won't even POST. If the board gets past the initial startup of the cpu so that the BIOS can be accessed, then the BIOS' instructions of using such and such a multiplier with the 133MHz fsb will go into effect. [By the way (and this may be asked somewhat late, but better late than never), is your cpu unlocked? It matters. It's crucial. If you haven't connected the L1 bridges yet with no.2 pencil, or better yet, Loctite rear window defogger repair kit paint, then do so now before this goes any farther.]

Thanks for the insight.

I have tried to unlock my CPU once but I failed and almost got it fried. I'm a bit shy to even try it again. I don't want to have to buy another CPU 'cause in Canada, Athlon-C 1.4GHz are 199,99 at best (I shop for components relatively close to my home so I can't get the best price on the whole but hey...). And I don't have 200 bucks to spare as of now.

I don't understand WHY I should unlock it thought... Isn't it to unlock the MULTIPLIER. As I see it, it doesn't have anything to do with the FSB...

Anyway. What are the things I could use to get the bridge locked beside Rear defoger kit and conductive ink? I have some Artic Silver II at home but I'm sure it will not do the job. And I'm sure I don't have the pencil to do it. Like the "#2" pencil or something...

Thanks for the reply everyone.
