Do you people REALLY think people are stupid enough to spend 9 months pregnant for a one-time $500 payment?

Notice the and
So not only do they have to give birth to the child, but they also have to give them up for adoption?

$500 is ridiculous. How do you put a price on a person? This is wrong in so many levels.

Well, considering that the woman getting the abortion considered the baby to be worthless, five hundred bucks is a pretty good price.

They won;t have to pay for a abortion, state pays for medical cost, and they get $500 at the end.

Trust me, there are plenty of people in texas that will think that and claim their $500. And of course republicans will cheer how they have kept xyz number of abortions from happening while some might not have planned on a abortion but did this for the "free" $500. Mind you at the cost of texas tax payers.

This is ridiculous. Who's going to think to themselves "Hmm, well, I really don't want to have a kid, but I DO really want a new Prada bag...." Texas is the most effed up place on the planet, I swear

One idiot lawmaker proposes a bill, which hasn't been voted on btw, and you declare all of Texas to be "the most effed up place on the planet"? I'm sure I could find proposed legislation from New Hampshire that I could use to call you an idiot too.

Wait until if/when the bill passes before you go shooting your mouth off.

Yes, yes I do. Not most people, but if you're already sitting around the house, getting a welfare check for nothing, this is like a bonus for you. And, if you've got a couple teen-aged daughters at home, you could "go through it together, and at the end of the 9 months, we'll be able to buy that new big screen television. Besides, you're only really showing a lot for about 3 of those months."

It takes a pretty big idiot to slander everybody in a state because of one doofus of a lawmaker.

Think of all the money the state will get to spend on idiots that think... well if I get knocked up and give the kid up thats a "easy" $500. Then all these kids go to state care after no one adopts them. Long run people that live in Texas pay a lot more in taxs for this republicans idiotic idea.

"Cool, Texas will likely eat the cost of 10k per kid born in the hospitals that many of these moms wont/cant pay.

Serves Texas right for sending us Bush.

Texans, get your wallets out. "

so, you're opposed to the fact that welfare pays (poor) women to have (fatherless) babies?

No I have no problem with welfare. It should limited, but I would never want a child to suffer. I just dont think this guy is realizing he how much more burden he is sholving on his fellow Texans.

I do have a problem with providing incentives to have a baby to prevent aborting fetuses.

Just another case of Republicans reducing gov't. (haha) and advancing their religious beliefs.

Why do you WANT the fetuses to be aborted? You have something against fetuses?

As an atheist I don't even understand why abortion is a religious issue. It should be an ethical issue, centered on what we consider to be human.

Right. Obviously he doesn't consider "fetuses" human and correctly notes that it would be cheaper to abort the baby than to have it - especially since both will be paid for by the state.

Texas will recoup any payments made under this plan quite easily by tacking it onto the fee's they're charging to folks eager to adopt healthy infants.

And then people will not adopt in Texas being that there is 49 other states let alone other countries that would be cheaper.
Same thing that has happened in Detroit. Business leaves they need more money they raise fees and such. Now fees are high so more business leaves. They raise fees again to get back. Now they start asking why do businesses not want to come here... DUH.

Again this is standard republican idiots. Of course its coming from Texas.

Not taking the bait, if you're for this move to Texas and vote, better yet, adopt.

if they were to tack on $500 "extra" dollars to adopt that is chicken feed considering what it actually does cost altogether.

in Australia you get a AU $4000+ no-strings cash bonus from the government when you have a baby, it is supposed to help increase the declining birth rate here
(although really it is a way of the government buying votes from a certain class of people)
